Job Summary:
The Manager, Programming is responsible for the day-to-day scheduling of the ACC Network and other ACC Network Bristol-based responsibilities reporting to the Sr. Director of Programming for ACC Network. In addition, the position will work closely with Bristol Studio Production and Charlotte Event Production teams on day-to-day network activity and future show development for ACC Network. The position will require consistent communication and interaction with the broader College Sports Programming team and ACCN Programming team in Charlotte, plus internal ESPN departments including Production, Ad Sales, Finance, Marketing, Communications, Research, Legal, Sales and Marketing, and Digital Media. This position is also the main day-to-day partner with the conference office regarding the scheduling of their events.
Lead the assembly of the 24/7 ACC Network program schedule in a strategic effort to maximize viewership, sales opportunities and affiliate value working closely with the ESPN Content Strategy team and the full College Sports unit. Work in conjunction with the ACC Network Sr. Director and Programming Coordinator to identify key match-ups and maximize the grant of rights to drive revenue and viewership. Provide department with long range programming data to support acquisition and schedule planning, and contribute to new idea generation.
ACCN (ACC Network) is ESPN's newest multi-platform network launching August 2019. Showcasing 27 varsity sports from the Atlantic Coast Conference, ACCN will super-serve ACC fans like never before by shining a spotlight on the conference that's earned 471 national titles, its rivalries and traditions. In addition to football and basketball, ACCN will feature live games and extensive coverage of lacrosse, soccer, volleyball, softball, baseball and more along with ACC Championships. Original content and studio shows will provide fans inside access, analysis and storytelling all year long. ACC student-athletes, the universities, fans and ACCN employees alike are integral to building this network through innovation and excellence.
The Atlantic Coast Conference was established in 1953 and consists of 15 member institutions: Boston College, Clemson, Duke, Georgia Tech, Florida State, NC State, Syracuse, Louisville, Miami, North Carolina, Notre Dame (excluding football), Pittsburgh, Virginia, Virginia Tech, and Wake Forest. Responsibilities:
• Primary scheduler of the ACC Network responsible for maintaining the network's schedule on a 24/7 basis. Collaborate with affiliate sales and internal constituents to develop a schedule that will enhance the ACCN value proposition.
• Serve as the ACC Network Programming partner with the conference office to select match-ups and communicate programming schedules to ACC officials and member institutions; cultivate and establish strong working relationships with same groups to best position the network.
• Work with ESPN Marketing to set strategic promotional priorities for the ACC Network.
• Work closely with Advertising Sales to develop revenue generating opportunities for ACC Network.
• Collaborate with Communications teams to promote awareness around network sports schedules and content tentpoles.
• Serve as point of contact with ESPN Social Media team by communicating scheduling detail to support key programming initiatives.
• As part of the Programming team, contribute new ideas and suggestions (within and outside of College Sports) guided by ESPN's overall brand strategies, viewer response, and the competitive landscape
• Special projects as assigned by Senior Director.
• Travel required to represent ESPN's programming interests, e.g. ACC office, ESPN Charlotte office or select ACC events.
Basic Qualifications:
• 5 years of experience in television programming or related sports business field.
• Strong knowledge of college sports and the college conference landscape.
• Strong knowledge of sports television, the sports business & the cable industry.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Demonstrated strong interpersonal skills & ability to build relationships at all levels.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Knowledge of Content Scheduler, NCS system or other ORACLE-related computer system.
• 7 years of experience in television programming or related sports business field.
• Experience working with legal contracts.
Required Education
• Bachelor's Degree in Communications, Business, Sports Management, or another related field.
