Part Time Job
espnW seeks a part-time Associate Editor to join our digital media editorial team. Reporting to espnW's General Editor, social manager, the Associate Editor will help manage the social media accounts, write up short articles on buzzy topics, serve as a homepage backup and be available to work night and weekend shifts for espnW.com. Successful candidates will have an ability to develop ideas in partnership with writers and other editors, good news judgment and top-notch editing skills.
Responsibilities
• Posts articles to various espnW social platforms, with espnW voice and audience in mind
• Works in close partnership with other espnW editors to contribute to large projects with multi-layer and multi-platform storytelling approaches across ESPN groups
• Contributes to ideation and development of new short, social-media centric articles for espnW.com
• Edits (story development, line editing, production/posting to site) stories for espnW.com
• Works with the espnW team to ensure all content is timely, reflects the espnW voice, and maintains a high level of journalistic quality
• Utilizes news and story judgment to program the homepage to reflect espnW.com's audience
Basic Qualifications
• Two (2) years professional editorial and/or reporting experience
• Strong line editing skills
• Understanding of and respect for journalistic standards and ethics
• Experience with social media platforms and best social practices
• Ability to work independently and as part of a larger team
• Clear understanding of the female audience
• Strong affinity for sports and the relationship women have with sports as fans and athletes
• Excellent interpersonal and verbal communication skills
• Detail-orientation
• Self-starting and problem-solving attitude
• Mindful of P&L implication for all creative decisions
Preferred Qualifications
• Passion for launching and growing innovative content products and storytelling formats
• Experience with producing content for a female audience
• Exposure to / familiarity with digital media
Required Education
• Bachelor's Degree in communications, journalism, new media online/multimedia or a related field, or a high school diploma and a suitable combination of related training and experience including 2 years of relevant journalism experience.
