As one of the premier training facilities in the world, Driveline's mission is to bring out the best version of every player, coach, and employee that joins our team.
We're hiring a Baseball Operations Intern that excels in a fast-paced, low bureaucracy environment. If you're looking for a culture where your output is expected to make a difference at the cutting edge of the sport, Driveline is the place for you.
What Will You Work On?
We have many MLB clients and software products, so our Baseball Operations Intern will spend the majority of their time working on projects like:
• Iterating on our current Advanced Scouting Offerings for the 2024 MLB season
• Improving existing data pipelines from various third-party API/data streams
• Answering discrete internal R&D-based questions and requests from coaches and players
• Building professional-grade tools, models, and insights to plug into Driveline's SaaS products
• Creating content that communicates internal findings to the larger baseball community
• Validating and pairing new 3rd party technologies
What Will We Provide You?
This is an opportunity to directly interact with some of the premier coaches, athletes, and analysts in the world.
This isn't a front-office position where you'll be isolated at a desk, working on one project that may or may not reach production by the end of your internship.
For this reason and others, many of our former BBops interns have found success breaking into the industry full-time.
What Are You Really Good At?
• Writing in major programming languages like R and/or Python (specifically, experience with data analysis and visualization)
• Maintaining and exploring databases (MySQL and/or NoSQL experience preferred), as well as optimizing database queries and database design
• Using version control tools, primarily Git
• Interfacing, extracting, and manipulating various data structures, such as JSON and XML
• Working with Statcast Data and understanding the nuances of publicly available pitch-level datasets
• Constructing and deploying machine learning models with production-level code
• Translating highly technical topics into digestible information for coaches and athletes
What Are You Even Better At?
• Asking novel and relevant questions about the game of baseball that push our industry forward
Requirements
• Must be able to stand for 4 hours straight
• Must be able to lift 50 pounds
End of Internship
Full-time roles are not guaranteed at the completion of an internship. Candidates will be evaluated on an individual basis for full-time roles or internship extensions.
