Because of Disney Television Animation's strong use of commercial and custom software technologies to create its animation products, its use of technology, engineering, development techniques and software is critical to its production operations and workflows.
Responsibilities:
The System Engineer (SE) position provides production system technical engineering and support for the technology infrastructure used by DTVA to produce its digital animation production products. The SE position is responsible for supporting the following technologies:
Servers:
• Application
• Archival / Backup
• Data Analytic
• Database
• Development
• File servers
• Load Balancers
• Monitoring
• Remote transfer
• Render servers
• Virtual
• Web
Platforms:
• Frame Accurate Digital Disk Recorder systems
• Containerized solutions (Docker, etc.)
• Hyper Converged Infrastructure
• Digital Tape library systems
• Storage Area Network systems
• Network Attached Storage systems
• Cloud based solutions
The System Engineer participates in:
• Researching, testing and implementing optimized technical solutions for our production technology infrastructure and user base:
• Multi-platform computer system management (Linux / UNIX, Mac OS and Windows):
• Administration
• Application support
• Configuration Management
• Customization
• Imaging
• Remote control
• Security policy / access rights
• System - Procedures and Policy
• Security patches and updates
• Delivers assigned projects.
• Works with the technology department's management to execute daily server room technical maintenance and implementation schedules.
• Operates software, creates software scripts, batches and applications for automating processes and tasks to both ease and enhance the support environment in such areas as: archival, data migration and system I/O.
• Provides 3rd tier /extended support to the Technical Support Engineering group.
• Performs technical administration functions and other miscellaneous technical special projects as assigned by department management.
• Influences direction of product and service development.
• Interacts with vendors.
Basic Qualifications:
• 5 to 8 years' experience supporting high-end servers and graphics workstation hardware.
• 5 to 8 years' experience supporting (advanced troubleshooting and configuration experience) Linux / UNIX, Apple OSX and Microsoft Windows based systems in a network environment.
• 5 to 8 years of experience working with network administration utilities.
• Working knowledge of networking environments.
• Ability to work in a fast paced, production critical environment.
• Knowledge of Active Directory Services and its integration with applications
• Experience with creative applications such as: ToonBoom, AutoDesk Maya, Adobe Creative Suite and Nuke is a plus.
• Knowledge of rendering pipeline for creative applications listed above is a plus.
• Strong Microsoft Windows and Linux comprehension a plus
• Experience with Disaster Recovery integration and associated workflows is plus.
• Experience with VMware administration.
• Experience implementing and administering automation tools like Puppet is a plus.
• Experience with Python, VBscript, Powershell is a plus.
• Able to communicate technical information effectively – both written and verbally.
• Ability to strategically solve complex technical issues.
• Must have a strong customer service orientation and have the ability to work with a diverse user community.
• Must be well organized and detailed oriented.
Required Education
• Bachelor's degree in a technical discipline.
