This is a Full Time Job
Lead pub plan creation of 15-20 titles or content pools per year for an ongoing franchise, manage approvals of branded content from international partners and oversee the licensed publishing program for National Geographic Kids, approving original and pick up content for Disney international partners. Liaise between Nat Geo Kids, Disney, and Licensing partners to coordinate development of future products and growth of footprint in international markets.
Responsibilities:
Titles/pools/guidelines
• Review and Approve 10 products weekly from international partners
• Strategize development and growth of content pools, manage creation, assign staff and oversee schedules
• Liaise with foreign licensees and Disney licensing task force to align strategy and focus for international growth
• Create and manage materials for licensed partners including tool kits and style guides
• Engage in rights research for both text and photo
• Brainstorm new stories, series, concepts, themes, and formats as needed
• Hire writers and contribute to building up high-quality writer pool as needed
• Edit books that target a variety of ages
• Review all global and vertical book titles and covers created for your program or franchise
• Attend brand meetings for editorial and art reviews as needed
• Attend production meetings and additional team meetings as needed
Pub Planning
• Partner with editorial director to brainstorm global pub plans across licensees and within Disney Book Group
• Prepare P&Ls, create ISBNs, write fact sheets and metadata, and attend acquisitions for necessary vertical titles
• Plan for quarterly solicitations
• Work with managing editor, editorial director, licensing, and global operations to confirm book titles
• Prepare presentations for Bologna/London and franchise meetings
• Present pub plans as necessary internally and externally
Pub Planning/OPA
• Review, approve, and/or comment on online pub planning for your film program or franchise
• Review, approve, and/or comment on North America titles, covers, and/or marketing/sales information in OPA for your film program or franchise
• Manage the review of Global titles, covers, and/or marketing/sales information in OPA for your film program or franchise
Basic Qualifications:
• Minimum 6-7 years experience in children's publishing
• Exceptional skills in editing children's books
• Understanding of copyediting skills
• Ability to prioritize, multi-task, manage resources across multiple projects, and meet tight deadlines
• Highly motivated, productive, and detail-oriented, with strong organizational skills
• Knowledge of publishing process and formats required
• Basic Knowledge of InDesign a plus
• Familiarity with National Geographic, nonfiction publishing, and licensed publishing a plus
Required Education
• Bachelor of Arts /Bachelor of Sciences
