About the Role & Program
Team Nature Production is responsible for the natural history and wildlife slate at National Geographic Content, providing premium series and specials across our company's many platforms like Disney+ and the Nat Geo linear channels. Our team of network producers and admin staff liaise with strategic partners across The Walt Disney Company to handle content management while editorially guiding and honing our shows through the production life cycle-from green light to final delivery. Our team works with world-class production partners and global talent to tell stories that deepen our connection with the natural world, advance the genre, illuminate the wonder and magic of the natural world, expand the Nat Geo and Disney natural history universe, and explore stories of a changing environment!
What You Will Do
• Assist in the following areas: Tracking and reviewing incoming project pitches. Attend several development and production meetings for both blue chip specials and series. Shadow an EP for cut reviews and create editorial notes.
• Assist Production team on projects as needed including various production tracker documents, production databases and program roll-outs.
• Provide competitive analysis on both television and digital projects in wildlife/animal space.
• Research and organize electronically a list of potential talent that would be suitable for consideration in specific shows.
• Initiating and presenting a department enhancing project that is tailored to interests of the intern and the goals of Team Nature Production.
Required Qualifications and Skills
• Strong oral and written communication skills
• Analytical and organized
• Ability to handle and prioritize simultaneous projects and meet deadlines
• Self-motivated and resourceful, with the ability to work with minimal direction and exercise independent judgment
• Proficient in the use of MS Word and Excel
Preferred Qualifications
• Interest in National Geographic and its mission
• Interest in unscripted or documentary stories
• Proficient in InDesign or Photoshop
Education
To be eligible for this internship you must be a junior, senior or a recent graduate (within 6 months of your graduation date) pursuing a Bachelor's Degree in Journalism, Science, Fine Arts or related field.
Eligibility Requirements & Program Information
• Must be enrolled in an accredited college/university taking at least one class in the semester/quarter (spring/fall) prior to participation in the internship program OR must have graduated from a college/university within 6 months OR currently participating in a Disney College Program or Disney Professional Internship
• Must be at least 18 years of age and possess unrestricted work authorization
• Must not have completed one year of continual employment on a Disney internship or program.
• Must be able to have a consistent, reliable work schedule throughout the session
• Must be able to work on-site in Washington, DC and provide your own housing and transportation for the duration of the internship
• Program Length: The approximate dates of this internship are May 2024 – August 2024. Candidate must be available to work 40 hours/week in Eastern Standard time for the duration of the internship
