Publicity Manager (DCWW)
Job Summary:
The Publicity Manager will drive strategic consumer, trade and business press coverage for the Kids Communications team with a focus on publicity campaigns for Radio Disney Network (Radio Disney and Radio Disney Country) and live-action programming for Disney Channels Worldwide. Strong press relationships with music, TV and entertainment media (including broadcast-TV and radio, print/online, bloggers), and the ability to find, formulate and successfully pitch news stories is essential. Experience and skill in developing and executing publicity campaigns for music-related programming and events, television series, television movies and on-air programming events is required. Ability and ease in managing internal and external relationships (e.g., creative talent and their representatives, all levels of colleagues across business units).
Responsibilities:
• Develop press copy and other press materials and craft messaging for talent and series' creative teams
• Develop creative news angles to publicize programming and special events.
• Maintain strong relationships with consumer and business reporters, segment producers, and online/blog contacts.
• Secure, oversee and manage / cover press interviews, in-studio interviews, set visits, press events, and photo shoots.
• Cultivate newsworthy information from talent (Radio Disney and Disney Channel) and creative teams that can be pitched to press.
• Collaborate with colleagues across Disney Channels and Disney ABC TV Group Communications to generate ideas and PR for properties and franchises.
• A robust understanding of kid's television, properties and brands to ensure proper positioning in the media.
Basic Qualifications:
• Minimum five years publicity experience in music / TV / media
• Must demonstrate superb written and verbal communication skills
• Must have excellent understanding of effective media relations practices
• Must be self-motivated and proactive with the ability to manage multiple projects
• Must have working knowledge of reporters who cover music and television
• Must have strong interpersonal skills, and be capable of working independently and in a team atmosphere
• Must have familiarity with social media
• Must have experience working with Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint
• Must have a strong work ethic, desire and commitment to accept increasingly greater challenges and responsibilities
• Must have ability to adapt in a fast-paced corporate work environment
Preferred Qualifications:
• PhotoShop and graphic design skills
Required Education
• Bachelor's Degree or equivalent work experience
Preferred Education
• Bachelor's Degree with an emphasis in Communications, Journalism, Media Relations, Public Relations
Additional Information:
• The position is based in Burbank, CA and reports to the Executive Director of Communications.
