Job Summary:
ABC Studios seeks a qualified candidate for a VP, Drama Development role. In this the role, the person will represent the Studio on assigned Drama development shows and pilot projects.
Responsibilities:
Creative Responsibilities:
• Implement the creative strategy as defined by the Head of Drama, ABC Studios.
• Develop and maintain relationships with Drama talent (writers, producers, directors, actors, authors, filmmakers, playwrights), identifying the creators and show runners of tomorrow and actively pursuing business with them
• Proactively pursue and procure IP for development from various sources (literary, podcasts, international formats, articles, etc.)
• Proactively manage the focus and the performance of assigned production pods, overall deal writers and directors
• Proactively manage assigned network, agency and Disney Streaming Service coverage and maintain relationships with priority executives at each entity
• Proactively manage the performance of respective administrative assistants
• Track, solicit, evaluate, procure, develop and oversee the production of scripted programming from pitch to pilot, which involves but is not limited to:
• Hearing, evaluating pitches
• Taking pitches to market at the appropriate network/s
• Reading & giving notes on stories, outlines and scripts
• Managing the relationships amongst all key stakeholders throughout the process (writer, producers, network executives)
• Participating in hiring key cast and crew
• Participating in key creative decisions regarding physical production
• On-set talent and creative management for pilot shoots
• Watching cuts and giving creative feedback and notes
• Staffing writers and directors for series
Stakeholder Relationships
Internal:
• Seek direct feedback from Head of Drama on work related priorities
• Interface with the network on all production and development issues to include, but not limited to:
• Ensure that the network and studio priorities are in sync and being addressed by the internal partner at the Network and Disney Streaming Service
• Develop and maintain a positive and productive working partnership with counterpart(s) at the Network and Disney Streaming Service
• Collaborate to identify talent we should keep, and talent we should utilize in the future
• Collaborate with other departments and department heads as appropriate, including Business Affairs, Legal, Production, Casting, etc.
External:
• Develop and maintain relationships with Drama talent and their agents (writers, producers, directors, actors, authors, filmmakers, playwrights), identifying the creators and show runners of tomorrow and actively pursuing business with them
• Develop and maintain relationships with network counterpart
Basic Qualifications:
• 7 or more years of development / experience supporting network, studio or feature films or current
• Self-starter; enthusiastic and highly-motivated
• A team player who works well with others
Required Education
• Bachelor's degree preferred or equivalent work experience
