Vice President - Production (ABC)
Job Summary:
The Vice President of Production will provide leadership and oversight of physical production of scripted series, movies, pilots and specials for ABC Studios. Deliver compelling programming that meets creative and financial expectations by facilitating communication, thinking strategically, staying current on new technologies, seeking new talent and providing support to business partners.
Responsibilities:
• Supports and elevates the creative goals of ABC Studios productions reporting to current Heads of Production and Post Production as set forth by President of ABC Studios by making appropriate production, financial and logistical recommendations.
• Finds solutions to budgetary challenges while always maintaining the creative integrity of the project.
• Able to communicate effectively with Producers, Showrunners, talent and talent agents in the execution of their duties as the Company's representative on ABC Studios produced pilots and series.
• Able to manage multiple ABC Studios projects simultaneously.
• Supervise all aspects of production beginning with drafting production plans and schedules, creating initial budgets prior to producer selection, through series production and post-production.
• Draft and publish series planning documents, such as development and series schedules and Seasonal Production Calendars, to keep all partners on track and informed of pilot and series pickup and launch deadlines. Proactively communicate any potential schedule challenges and offer workable solutions.
• Identifies and oversees the selection of line producers who will execute the Studio's creative vision while maintaining budgetary parameters in support of Showrunners, the Studio and the network.
• Provide guidance and structure for line producers and production staff to ensure all contracts, deal memos, permits, releases, labor laws, etc. are adhered to per Company requirements.
• Familiarity with all aspects of ATL and BTL guild and union agreements, including the complexities and details of the agreements as they relate to New Media and Legacy delivery platforms, as well as awareness of each production's needs so agreements are applied as advantageously as possible.
• Responsible to maintain company policies and guidelines including but not limited to I-9 and harassment, conflict of interest issues, etc. as set forth by Creative, Legal, Labor, Finance, Minors, Management Audit, etc.
• Reviews production-related documents on a daily basis (Production Reports, Hot Costs, Cost Reports, etc.) and provides timely analysis on production trends.
• Responsible to handle HR and/or labor law issues in conjunction with other Studio Department executives.
• Look for efficiencies and savings while always maintaining the creative integrity of the project as the priority.
• Creates comprehensive budget templates and provides budgetary parameters to line producers and accountants to aid in the budgeting process.
• Vets and approves final budgets and schedules prior to distributing to Studio, Productions and network.
• Identifies and negotiates long and short-term leases for stages/production offices for ABC Studios pilots and series for efficiency and cost savings.
• Research and identify third party production companies for international co-productions in various international locations.
• Understands New and Emerging Digital Production technologies
• Demonstrated ability to work with Corporate Finance to create Long and Short term budget and management plans
Basic Qualifications:
• Minimum of 5 year's experience managing the physical production of scripted series and specials either as a Producer/UPM/Production Supervisor or as a network/studio Production Executive.
• Understanding of, and ideally experience with, relevant union and guild rules, policies and procedures.
• Ability to manage complex production budgets in a cost-effective manner.
• Ability to physically produce programs on limited budgets without sacrificing quality or production values.
• Hands-on experience working at or with a major studio or network.
• A collaborative management style and a demonstrated ability to work with multiple constituents to get the job done.
Required Education
Bachelor's Degree in Film, Television, Communications or equivalent work experience
