Job Summary:
ABC NEWS has an opening for a Principal Network Engineer.
Key responsibilities of this position include review and implementation of Data Center and WAN network design plans and the implementation of reference architectures and standards in various environments that support ABC News and The Broadcast Network.
Responsibilities:
The position is responsible for understanding and interpreting business and technical requirements in order to apply advanced next generation network technologies for global consumption. This includes participation in discovery, documentation, validation / refinement of forward-looking solutions (ex. Cloud Computing networks and next-gen technology center strategy) while considering opportunities for re-use of standard solutions and technologies.
Basic Qualifications:
• 10 years in an enterprise environment that operates 7x24 services to a multitude of customers and business units.
• Demonstrated experience with Enterprise Data Center Architectures (Zone head-end, end of row, top of rack, cluster designs, etc). Experience with interconnection of diverse networking/compute/storage technologies (ex. Juniper/Arista/Cisco networking, HP/IBM/Cisco blade compute platforms and networking of Avid/Hitachi/EMC/Isilon storage) including networking solutions for server application performance and availability
• Must have strong aptitude towards designing continuously available networks. Experience in implementing high availability network service models across the entire network service chain (including but not limited to extremely high capacity switching, routing, firewalling and load balancing).
• Experience in analyzing and developing designs against specific hosting architectures, their operational requirements and traffic loads which are both variable and heavy (up to 100Gb/sec) during periods of high consumer activity.
• Demonstrated knowledge/experience in multi-topology data center networking with expert knowledge and experience in technology integration and detailed network design. Must understand multi-tiered application architectures (including web, database, media workflows, cloud, IP video, IP Audio, Timing Architectures and OnAir Graphics workflows) in order to provide relevant design input and technical recommendations that are outside of, but have dependencies on the network.
• Must have expert level knowledge of IP routing protocols including BGP4, IS-IS and OSPF along with OSI Layer2 (Spanning Tree and Multipath link aggregation) and fabric technologies (Example. Cisco Fabric path and Juniper Qfabric).
• Strong knowledge of Domain Name Services architecture (along with Global Server Load Balancing and content distribution strategies) in an environment where it is used for distribution of content from multiple hosting locations.
• Experience in VMWare NSX and Nexus 1000v hypervisor based networking environments that utilize VXLAN other L2 abstraction layer technologies.
• Experience in Distributed Denial of Service Mitigation – from both tactical response and engineering perspectives. Must have experience in design for extremely large capacity and high network load levels.
• Strong Knowledge in Software Defined Networking tools (Openflow and server network orchestration tools) that is in support of a virtualization cloud based service.
• Strong understanding of virtualized environments in several areas (compute, storage, network) including experience with orchestration layer implementations (ex. BMC CLM or HP OO) that included network-provisioning operations. Familiarity with Chef/Puppet frameworks and Network HW API integration a plus.
• Extensive knowledge and understanding of technologies/architectures including: DWDM, 10Gig media standards (optical and electrical), MPLS, TCP/IP protocol suite, Ethernet 1Gig/10Gig and emerging 40Gig/100Gig)
• Experience with designing Data Center networks that support security compliance and segmentation strategies for PCI/SOX, Data center L2/L3 mobility mechanisms MEC/VPC/Vmotion, high density computing, QoS and IP Multicast.
• Preferred Qualifications:
• 15 years in an enterprise environment that operates 7x24 services to a multitude of customers and business units. Media and ISP industry experience preferred.
• Certifications: Cisco CCIE, Juniper NCIP-Enterprise, Sniffer Certified Expert/Master (SCE/SCM), ITILv3, Kepner-Tregoe problem solving methodology.
Required Education
4-year degree in the field of Mathematics, Decision Systems, Computer Science or Business.
Preferred Education
Master's degree in the field of Mathematics, Decision Systems, Computer Science or Business Technology
