Job Summary:
Lead two-person Disney and ESPN distribution strategy team that supports the U.S. Affiliate Sales & Marketing (ASM) organization and provides industry analysis, long-term strategic planning, new product evaluation and decision support related to MVPD carriage negotiations with existing players and new entrants. The scope of this highly visible role encompasses the entire portfolio of broadcast and cable networks (ABC, Disney kids networks, Freeform, ESPN, etc). The role requires superior strategic thinking, quantitative and qualitative problem solving and research, financial analysis, business development, and leadership / people management skills. The individual must possess the ability to interface effectively with multiple levels of management throughout Disney / ESPN Media Networks as well as in other areas of The Walt Disney Company. The position is based in New York City, NY and reports into the VP, Global Distribution Strategy and Business Development based in Burbank, CA.
This role is part of the broader Global Distribution Strategy (GDS) team that provides objective business decision support to evaluate new business opportunities, the impact on existing businesses and other key initiatives across several additional areas of distribution including direct-to-consumer (DTC), social media, international distribution, program sales/syndication and managing the Hulu relationship. The GDS team also works collaboratively across the distribution businesses to develop the organization-wide, long-range strategic plan.
Responsibilities:
• Lead team of 2 Analysts who support the efforts above across businesses and platforms
• Lead subscriber and technology adoption forecasts in close coordination with Finance and Research, among other relevant stakeholders
• Identify and evaluate new business opportunities for the Disney / ESPN Media Networks' (comprising of Disney ABC Television Group and ESPN), and as appropriate, develop business plans from idea phase through execution phase
• Lead research efforts around subscriber acquisition and retention trends and create distribution strategies to mitigate the long-term risk to the networks' business
• Lead process of developing actionable industry insights for the department and identifying meaningful options for the sales account teams related to television/digital content distribution
• Identify and integrate key stakeholders across the company in the analytical process
• Prepare and deliver communications both to and for senior executives, often based on complex strategic analysis and financial modeling
• Perform research, financial modeling and analysis to inform business decisions
• Crystalize key insights from data and communicate complex analyses in an efficient and effective manner to a variety of internal audiences, including Affiliate Sales, Product Development, Research, Finance and Disney and ESPN executives
• Manage 3rd party research relationships for the team and work extensively in internal and external research databases
• Track current media industry and technology trends/news and develop points of view on potential business impacts to be shared throughout the company
Basic Qualifications:
• 5 years of strategy, analytical business development and/or financial experience preferred
• Ability to take idea from brainstorm to execution stage, leverage available resources and achieve executive buy-in
• Significant staff/project management and leadership experience
• Strong proficiency with Powerpoint and Excel
• Must be comfortable working both independently and as a member of a team
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills and interpersonal skills, with the ability to present to and interface with multiple levels of management including senior executives throughout the Company as well as with potential external partner companies and multiple international cultures.
• Has deep industry experience and business insight which is utilized to create optimal strategies for the future growth of the Disney / ESPN media networks
• Understands the competitive landscape and current competitive trends in the media industry. Ability to forecast future trends
• Must take initiative and be a self-starter, willing to pitch in wherever needed
• The role requires some travel between Connecticut, NYC, and LA
Preferred Qualifications:
• 2 years' experience at a consulting firm or investment bank is a plus
• Familiarity/experience with traditional and digital media businesses

• Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience
