Full Time Job
The Manager, ENG Technical Operations will oversee and manage ENG operations for the DC Bureau, technical support and field transmission engineers and assets. This position will oversee department personnel, department expenses, ENG gear as well be a forward thinker for field workflows for news gathering purposes. This manager must be a strong team leader and have experience recruiting camera and technical talent, as well as in-depth knowledge of ENG equipment. This position will also be greatly involved in DC bureau and news division coverage for both breaking news and planned events and bureau projects. This position will also engineer and crew large ABC News productions in DC, around the country, and possibly overseas especially with White House travel. The Manager, ENG Technical Operations has to be a strong leader, have strong knowledge of unions & work practices, have strong team management skills and be a team player.
Responsibilities
• Manage the technical aspects for all ENG operations for ABC News Washington
• Manage ENG personnel, transmission engineers, technical support and assets
• Manage and oversee department expenses including labor and purchasing equipment
• Up to date on all field technologies and a forward thinker for future workflows
• In-depth knowledge of camera makes, models and manufacturers
• Strong knowledge of unions and work practices
• Strong knowledge of IP transmissions
• Ability to source tech talent for daily hires for daily coverage and large scale events
• Experience with full origination broadcast from the field working with production trucks
Basic Qualifications
-Minimum eight years of experience working in technical operations in broadcast news or similar environment
-Minimum three years of experience working in the field
-Demonstrated professional experience setting up Bonded Cellular and IP Transmissions
-Demonstrated knowledge of power distribution, audio equipment, video equipment, wireless systems and production lighting
-Demonstrated professional experience working with cameras
-Experience managing union and non-union employees
-Must have experience managing multiple projects
-Must be willing to travel on short notice both domestic and international
-Must be able to clear security checks including Secret Service for access to the White House and other federal buildings
-Excellent communication skills both verbally and written
Preferred Qualifications
• Three or more years of experience managing union and non-union employees
• Two or more years professional experience working with Sony cameras
Required Education
BA or BS from a four year accredited college or university or equivalent experience
