Job Summary:
The Designer works to produce visual companion to editorial narrative of the site, which may consist of illustration, design, video and photographic opportunities. The designer may also participate in the product development of the site, producing wireframes and prototypes to inform front-end style guides that improve the UX experience across desktop, tablet, and mobile platforms.
This role requires broad knowledge and advanced skills in visual design, information architecture, user interface design, web standards, and a solid understanding of available client-side technologies, as well as an ability to work within a team of designers, editors, and developers to further brand recognition and editorial goals.
Responsibilities:
• Design inventive, innovative, original content for daily art
• Prioritize content needs and assist in quality control.
• Have an awareness of and a curiosity around industry trends and current technology.
• Continually seek out and discover new talent who can elevate the ambition of the content group. Maintain good relationships with existing photographers, illustrators, designers.
• Be informed of the editorial schedule. Practice sound news judgment and understand design's role in effective storytelling.
• Fully embedded in the creative process, from conception to planning to hands on execution.
Basic Qualifications:
• A minimum of 2 years of digital design experience
• Extensive knowledge of Adobe CS, InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop
• Deep understanding of user interface, interaction, design and front end design across platforms
• Working knowledge of CSS, HTML 5, AfterEffects, Javascript, JQuery
Specific Knowledge/Skills/Experience:
• Well-versed and passionate about photography, illustration, and typography
• Ability to wireframe prototypes for custom design, templates, and improved UX
• Ability to concept and create in-house illustration
• Creative thinker, resourceful, organized, detail-oriented
Preferred Qualifications:
• Deep understanding of user interface, interaction, design and front end design across platforms
Required Education
• Bachelor's degree
