Job Summary
* Magnolia is flexible with this position being based in New York, Knoxville TN, or Waco/Austin TX
Develop and produce content across multiple platforms for Magnolia, the joint venture with Chip and Joanna Gaines. Conceive and create original programming, including series, specials, and stunts. Identify and develop new talent. Approve and guide creative and editorial decisions including show creative, casting, graphics and show titles.
Responsibilities
• Brings a steady flow of quality, cost-effective original programs to the network across all platforms
• Ensures production quality and adherence to established budgets and schedules
• Evaluates the performance of assigned aspects of the original production function against desired outcomes
• Conducts complex, high profile negotiations to secure production and talent for original programs
• Directs subordinate directors who oversee assigned original programming activities
• Translates corporate production strategies into short- and mid-term objectives for the function
• Sets, approves and adjusts some policies and major operating procedures
• Directs managers and professional individual contributor staff
• Develops plans that support business, operational and/or organizational priorities
• Makes decisions guided by resource availability and short-term functional or brand objectives
• May spend up to 40% of time as an individual contributor performing assignments that require a higher level of experience or technical expertise than subordinates
• Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned
• Position may involve extensive travel to sets, meetings, etc. (may be as much as 20-30% of the time)
Requirements
• Typically requires BS/BA or MS/MA/MBA or other graduate degree in related discipline and at least 10-15 years of experience, including a management role
• Knowledge of brand specific lifestyle programming and popular culture across all platforms
• Knowledge of brand specific tools, trends, styles, methods and materials
• Knowledge of video/print/media production
• Knowledge and experience working in a variety of genres and platforms is essential (including genres outside of typical lifestyle programming like competition shows, live programs, occu-soaps, etc.)
• Experience in both development and production is key
• Ability to balance entertainment and information in programming
• Ability to identify, analyze and effectively critique content and storytelling
• Ability to manage the production process from concept to air or to other platforms
• Ability to act independently and responsibly
• Ability to work collaboratively with team members
• Negotiation skills
• Proficient working with Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Outlook
• Attention to detail, accuracy, and strong organizational skills
• Capacity to juggle multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Must have the legal right to work in the United States
