The Role
Functions as the primary point of contact for executive team to anticipate and investigate relevant research and facilitates Discovery’s strategic and competitive position to guide effective decision making. Analyse data and trends in media channel usage by leading a research staff and utilizing third party research data to present performance insights to upper management. Demonstrates expertise in a variety of quantitative fields, database systems, advanced analytical techniques, concepts, practices, and procedures.
The Vice President, Corporate Research and Strategy is responsible for managing all aspects of corporate research in support of Discovery C-Suite, Investor Relations and Finance. The VP manages the day to day responsibilities of the Strategic Research team and lead in developing and executing key audience analysis across Discovery’s linear and non-linear platforms.
Responsibilities
1. Support the Group SVP; developing a stream of performance insights for executive consumption and decision making and identifying industry wide trends that could impact our business
2. Provide strategic insights and relevant reporting for regular corporate meetings, conferences and press events, including but not limited to: Board of Directors meetings, Earnings calls, Senior Leadership Conference, TCA, Month-end and Quarter-end reporting and press highlights, etc
3. Utilize data to analyse relevant information geared to specific corporate initiatives and strategies
4. Lead a team to field ad-hoc research request and work closely with executive team to deliver clear communication in a timely and concise manner
5. Interact on a daily basis with executive management, finance and interdepartmentally on issues regarding DCI performance in maximizing revenue potential
6. Interface with Brand Research as well as DNI corporate and regional teams to contribute to research excellence across the organization
7. Maintain and manage usage on the Discovery Influencer Panel for various brand and ad sales stake holders
Requirements
* Minimum of 7-10 years’ experience in related industry such as cable or new media
* BS/BA degree required
* Excellent communication and presentation skills both oral and written a must; strong project management skills are essential
* Demonstrated ability to synthesize research findings to “tell a story” with action-oriented implications is critical
* Candidate will also possess high level of maturity and professionalism and must demonstrate ability to function in a team environment
* Possess the ability to respond to disparate needs and timetables
* Ability to work in a fast-paced high-pressure environment without sacrificing accuracy and attention to detail
* Must have experience in the development of corporate and brand strategies
* Intimate experience with various quantitative and qualitative research methodologies and research tools necessary, including Nielsen Media Research, comScore/Rentrak, MRI/Simmons, Google Analytics
* Demonstrates a thorough knowledge of Nielsen data. Excellent analytical and mathematical abilities and knowledge of basic statistics required
* Some travel required
* Must have the legal right to work in the United States
