Responsibilities
Your New Role...
What is the merchandising department and what makes it unique? A great way to explain it is to think about the spice market in Marrakesh. An old man runs a stand full of wonderful spices, but you don’t know what they are or what you would do with them. The merchant helps guide you through the buying process, allowing you to sample his wares and answering your questions. He is the definition of merchandising - easing the customer through the process of finding content they will love!
Merchandising is the practice and process of displaying content to our consumers. We power the first impression with the intention of quickly converting a user to a viewer. We focus on how we can optimise and merchandise our content effectively on all of our digital discovery and HBO Max products (across Entertainment Sports). Our focal point is understanding consumer behaviours and engagement to identify what works effectively to keep our customers wanting more and provide them with the optimal premium content experience.
The exciting opportunity we are offering for an intern is to work mostly with our European Merchandising team covering all 12 discovery European markets and partake in “Project Flame” a project that oversees the preparation for the world’s biggest sporting event - the Olympics! There will be other ad-hoc areas as focus as well.
Qualifications
Your Role Accountabilities…
The intern joining our team will be responsible for the Discovery/Analysis phase of this Flame project, looking back on past Olympics both from Discovery and streaming competitors and identifying opportunities to raise the bar for Paris 2024. Daily tasks during this period will include:
Working with the Merchandising leads across all European markets to identify learnings from Beijing 2020 and Tokyo 2020, as well as. opportunities for Paris 2024.
Collaborate with the team to identify action points to implement improvements and clarify owners/impact and size of effort.
Organise improvements into a timeline with risks and dependencies for future project managers to track and implement against.
Conduct competitor analysis to understand what new ideas might we want to embark on to show content in new and exciting ways and how we can better inject storytelling into our merchandising experiences.
Capture and plan with the market leads to what will be the most essential content to spotlight on Homepages, and how we might want to display high priority content on the platform.
By the end of the semester the intern would have completed the Analysis/Discovery phase of Project Flame which includes a full retrospective of past games learnings and future ideas - formatted this into an actionable plan with artefacts for the Flame project manager to benefit from.
