The Role
The Media and Content Distribution Systems group at Discovery is responsible for developing and maintaining systems for managing Discovery’s rich media libraries and is looking to add a Technical Lead. The Technical Lead will work with agile development teams as a team member and by providing oversight and design input to teams across the Content Systems group. Additionally, he/she will often serve as a technical advisor to group management. The ideal candidate for this role has a strong and varied technical background. He/she has learned from and formed opinions based on prior experience and is willing and able to share and explain them, both with the development team and with management. This role will accelerate teams’ delivery by instilling well-written, robust and practical solutions as well as drive continuous improvement in Discovery’s software development efforts by instilling best-of-breed engineering practices with other Technical Leads.
Responsibilities
1. Design and develop web services (typically REST) in a Java ecosystem with an emphasis on web-based systems
2. Approach software development with test-driven development and broad understanding of test types and purpose(s)
3. Review code and provide technical oversight to team members
4. High-level design, including synchronous and asynchronous communication models
5. Read/write data from and into complex relational structures and a fundamental understanding of relational database design
6. Lead in task planning, and estimation
7. Review and consult on the work of other peers on project teams
8. Work in close partnership with other team members and other teams
Requirements
* Minimum 6 years of commercial web development
* Must be willing to travel as required
* Must have the legal right to work in the United States
Strongest candidates will have at least one or more of the following:
* Modern UI framework (Angular, React) development
* Application Security (Web Tokens, OAuth)
* NoSQL databases (Neo4J/Graph, Reddis, Lucene)
* Benchmark/Performance analysis & tuning with a side of load balancing
* Automation (Jenkins, Sonar, Saucelabs) & CI/CD
* Understanding of networks/routing/IPs and CIDR blocks
* Designing and Developing for AWS & Cloud/Hybrid
* Experience with working with one or more of the following; digital video, video streaming, video metadata, media or broadcast workflows
