This position will primarily provide support for Discovery’s US Affiliate Sales, Signal Authorization, and Finance applications as part of the Business Systems and Operations organization. The Senior Business Analyst will work with the Domestic Distribution Operations, Global Business Services (Affiliates), and Financial Planning & Analysis user groups. The primary role will involve the elicitation of functional requirements from internal business customers and driving their delivery through the software development lifecycle for both project and application maintenance releases. Working with multiple user groups across Discovery both within GT&O and the business, the Senior Business Analyst will serve as the conduit between the customer community and the software development team through which requirements flow.
Issue and problem management will also be a major function of the Business Analyst/Product role, liaising with the business customers and keeping them continually updated on issues status via clear written and verbal communication. Part of this function will include being able to analyze and problem solve based on information gathered from multiple sources and work hand-in-hand with the development and QA teams to provide both short term and root cause solutions. The Senior Business Analyst will act as a subject matter expert for the functions assigned to them as a partner to the business.
The Senior Business Analyst will perform or assist with software testing in support of project and application maintenance activities. The role will design test plans and execute them as needed, as well as coordinate testing validation performed by the business.
Responsibilities
1. Develop and maintain effective working relationships with business customers to maintain business expertise and alignment.
2. Proactively communicate and collaborate with business customers to determine needs and functional requirements and deliver the following deliverables as needed: Functional requirements, Use Cases, Screen (wireframes) and Interface designs
3. Elicit requirements via multiple approaches including but not limited to group meetings, interviews, document analysis, business process descriptions, use cases, task and workflow analysis
4. Drive the delivery of documented requirements via collaboration with the development and QA teams to ensure that business requirements are being satisfied and validated
5. Clear understanding of software development lifecycle methodologies and documentation standards. Ensure compliance with Discovery’s Software Development Lifecycle documentation and mandated compliance requirements for all application changes
6. Establish a partnership with the business customers to then be able to drive and challenge business units on their assumptions of how they will successfully execute their business in their systems
7. Successfully engage in multiple initiatives simultaneously
8. Work independently with users to define concepts and under direction of project managers
9. Provide functional and business subject matter expertise for IT projects and business systems support as well as to the IT training team in support of new employee training and ongoing system training needs
10. Monitor issue management system to ensure all reported production issues are addressed according to their priority and relative importance to release activities
11. Provide 2nd level support for production issues which includes problem identification, definition and implementation of short-term work around and coordination of long-term software solution with development team
12. Develop and execute IT test plans and coordinate UAT activities.
13. Work with the business team to clearly document change requests initiated from either the business or IT throughout the lifecycle
14. Perform other relevant duties as assigned
Requirements
* Strong analytical and product management skills required, including a thorough understanding of how to interpret customer business needs and translate them into functional requirements
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to interact professionally with a diverse group, executives, managers, and subject matter experts
* Develop requirements specifications according to standard templates, using natural language
* Possesses thorough understanding of software development life cycle and project management methodologies
* Ability to work on multiple projects at one time and to ensure that overall priorities are being met
* Strong presentation and communication skills
* Ability to interface with business customers at all levels of the organization; be the liaison between the business units, technology teams and support teams
* Excellent problem-solving skills
* Experience writing SQL updates to perform basic production support updates/inserts in the applications’ underlying databases
* General knowledge of Finance concepts and terminology desirable
* Experience in the Media industry and respective applications preferred
* Ability to travel, at reasonable notice, to provide on-site support
* Legal right to work in the US
