How do I hire a Recipe Developer? Discovery, Inc. is searching for a Recipe Developer in our New York-Chelsea Market location to join the Food Network team. Reporting to the Test Kitchen Director, the developer will create delicious original recipe content consistent with the Food Network brands for our popular digital and print platforms.
Responsibilities
1. Write clean recipes consistent with the Food Network Kitchen style
2. Produce shopping list for development and that are sensitive to both costs and broad market consumer availability
3. Prepare, test, and evaluate recipes for accuracy and method
4. Prepare, test, and evaluate recipes with an eye for visual creativity and compatibility with digital video
5. Create custom recipe content based on a single featured ingredient.
6. Evaluate recipes for taste, as well as, consumer and brand suitability
7. Adjust and modify recipes as per supervisor instructions and tasting panel feedback
8. Keep detailed and accurate notation of the recipe development process
9. Input all procedural recipe changes in the computer and maintain record of testing
10. Keep current with industry and food trends
11. Keep current with food-based websites and social media platforms
12. Conduct thorough culinary research
13. Supervise and train interns and freelance recipe testers involved in targeted recipe development projects as needed
14. Maintain an orderly, professional, and sanitary work station in the Test Kitchen
15. Store and handle all food products for testing to maintain maximum freshness and shelf life
16. Take digital photos for web projects as well as style food for photography
Requirements
* Culinary degree preferred with:
* 2 years Restaurant or Catering experience
* 4 years Test Kitchen experience for cookbooks or other publications
* 4 years’ experience working in culinary media
* Recipe Development with comparable media company
* Strong culinary knowledge, including but not limited to: Contemporary and Regional American Cooking, French Cuisine, Italian, Chinese, Japanese, SE Asian, and Mexican Cuisine
* Strong understanding of the fundamentals of baking, including but not limited to: Quick Breads, Cakes, Cookies, Pastries, Bread Baking, and Chocolate, and Decorating
* Full Competency in Recipe Writing and writing How-to instruction
* Working knowledge of food styling
* Basic Digital Photography skills
* Knowledge and mastery of industry standards for food safety and sanitation
* Time Management and coordination skills
* Organization and planning skills
* Must have the legal right to work in the United States
