Position Title: Head of Programming, ANZ

General Summary:
A senior leader role responsible for developing the strategy and managing the execution of programming across the linear and non-linear portfolio of channels in Australia & New Zealand markets and increasing audience engagement to achieve ratings growth. A pro-active role with an exceptional understanding of the local and international audience, programming trends and competitive sets across several genres, this role is responsible for creation of compelling broadcast schedules and evaluating brand-appropriate acquisitions, to drive audience and revenue growth across the ANZ Portfolio and beyond.
Responsibilities
Key Responsibilities:
• Create and execute the content vision across a portfolio of channels that delivers sustainable audience growth, a compelling direct to consumer proposition and content that thrives both in local and global markets
• Create incredible local programming in Australia & NZ that delivers strong audiences and can be leveraged across Discovery’s international business
• Develop and execute competitive programming scheduling strategies (linear and non-linear) across channels in Australia and New Zealand with a focus on maintaining and increasing audiences,:
• Lead the team to achieve best in class programming for Discovery ANZ channels in terms of identification, commissioning, development, production and acquisition
• Close co-operation with the region content colleagues to share industry trends and knowledge, as well as explore possible co-production and other co-operative activities
• Be known as the number one channel partner across the ANZ television production community, in terms of attracting the best creative talent to work with, and bring a reputation as an inspiring, enabling and exciting partner to work with
• Actively manage the economics of content to both maximise the necessary rights of content across all platforms and to reduce the cost of the overall content library catalogue
• Lead, motivate and manage individual and team performance across Australia and New Zealand
• Liaise with distributors locally and internationally in evaluating and sourcing programming to maximize ratings, revenue and brand positioning across ANZ
• Deliver the growth in share of the TV viewing by ensuring the programming mix and channel portfolio is maximised and constantly monitoring performance and market developments
• Work closely with key talent (and their managers) to retain and optimise deployment across all platforms
Experience
- Experience:
• Network portfolio programming across multiple channels
• Experience across free-to-air, pay-tv and D2C desirable but not mandatory
• International experience desirable but not mandatory
Requirements
• Charismatic leader that excites the organization to drive change forward
• Minimum 10 years television experience in evaluating, acquiring and scheduling programming
• Exceptional knowledge of programming, audience and revenue drivers across multiple genres in Australia & New Zealand markets
• Proven track record of increasing audience engagement and ratings while reinforcing and enhancing brand integrity
• Strong creative leadership track record, able to inspire and motivate a team to deliver to an agreed vision
• Brings and/or establishes instant credibility with peers and third parties based on career history and personal qualities; ability to hold their own with the wide range of players in this area from the production community to talent and their agents, commercial and digital partners
• Strong presentation skills, able readily and easily to address a diverse range of audiences including internal colleagues and external partners
• A good regional network and an ability to build networks inside organisations; collaborative, influential approach to problem solving; able to work readily and easily with many different personalities and nationalities in a highly matrixed and international structure
