Discovery, Inc., the new global leader in real life entertainment with powerful brands such as Discovery Channel, TLC, Animal Planet, HGTV, Food Network, and Travel Channel, is searching for a Director of Programming to join our team.
The Director of Programming creates and develops new original programming for Food Network and Cooking Channel, as well as manages all aspects of original commissioned productions. The Director also reviews and steers show treatments, scripts, music, production, show cuts to ensure brand specifications and excellent production standards and manages ongoing series. They are also responsible for identifying and developing new talent. This position will be located in New York.
Responsibilities
1. Directs and manages all aspects of the original programming projects
2. Identifies and develops original programs important to the network
3. Ensures production quality and adherence to established budgets and schedules
4. Directs professionals who oversee the implementation of original programming projects
5. Communicates brand strategies with production community
6. Is accountable for the performance and results of a team, adapts plans and priorities to address resource and operational challenges
7. Makes decisions guided by established goals and objectives
Requirements
What you need to have:
* BS/BA from an accredited institution
* Minimum of 7 years of experience at production company or network
* Must have the legal right to work in the United States
It’s a plus if you have:
* Showrunner experience preferable
* Knowledge of brand specific lifestyle programming and popular culture related to television programming
* Knowledge of brand specific tools, trends, styles, methods and materials
* Knowledge of production
* Ability to balance entertainment and information in programming
* Ability to identify, analyze and effectively critique content and storytelling
* Ability to manage the production process from concept to air or to other platforms
* Excellent writing skills
* Negotiation skills
* Attention to detail, accuracy
* Strong organizational skills with ability to act independently and responsibly
* Capacity to juggle multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment
* Must be able to work collaboratively with team members
* Ability to work independently as well as in cross-functional groups
* Employees will also perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned
