The Director of Media Operations for UK/DNE is responsible for…
Manage core areas of Broadcast Master Control UK/DNE, Asset Management Operations, Operations Managers on Duty and all UK/DNE, US & Latam/USH broadcast operations personnel regarding their operating environment. Handle real-time operational issues that occur daily in this multi-faceted, international operation. Assist with development of training curriculum and implement operational procedures. Interface with UK/DNE Network Operations counterparts, UK/DNE Commercial Operations, UK/DNE Scheduling, outside vendors and Engineering. Review and respond to network discrepancy reports.
Responsibilities
1. Manage day to day activities of the Global Broadcast Master Control with focus on UK/DNE, Asset Management Operations, Operations Managers on Duty and all UK/DNE, US & Latam/USH broadcast operations personnel in conjunction with the Supervising Manager of Training
2. Oversee all 90 direct and indirect employees
3. Ensure that established SOPs and departmental policies are followed
4. Develop/implement prescribed employee work schedules and deal with absenteeism, illness and lateness on a daily basis
5. Analyze and document operational abnormalities; provide Vice President of Media Engineering & Operations with timely and accurate information including weekly reports for International Operations
6. Assist and/or coordinate suitable training programs for Operations personnel
7. Budgeting and forecasting of monthly operational expenses related to PTO, UTO, and overtime
8. Provide input for annual performance reviews of all staff and manage team handling new hire interviews for non-exempt personnel
9. Coordinate corrective actions during operational emergencies. Determine course of action to be taken in situations where advance notice of operational abnormalities is provided
10. Provide Vice President of Media Engineering & Operations with timely and accurate information regarding head-count and staffing. Coordinate new hire search and interviews as required.
11. Coordinate Operations and Engineering staff, as needed, during building and weather-related emergencies.
12. As needed, prepare for and attend meetings amongst management, staff and various departments.
13. Assist/lead team on all new automation, graphic, and traffic system platforms
14. Exercise total management representation at all times
15. On call 24x7
16. All other duties as assigned
Requirements
* Multi-channel international broadcast facility experience, working knowledge of automation systems, experience with operational policy/procedure implementation, working knowledge of media management, working knowledge of graphics playback.
* Strong leadership skills with the willingness to lead by example. Must be assertive and decisive.
* Strong organizational skills required. Strong written and verbal communication skills a must.
* Knowledge and understanding of broadcast operations policies and procedures required.
* Experience and working knowledge of all broadcast core facility equipment, routing and related procedures required.
* Strong video background with the ability to handle tasks in an organized and efficient manner.
* Provide real-time management of broadcast operation, handling the daily issues that develop, including but not limited to, schedule fulfillment and administration, enforcing departmental policies and implementing procedures.
* Must have the ability to analyze and accurately document network discrepancies.
* Must be skillful at interacting between various UK, US and Latin America departments.
* The ability to forecast and inform the Vice President of Media Engineering & Operations of any problems or potential problems (personnel or otherwise) or needed improvements within the facility is required.
* Verbal and written communication must be clear, authoritative and handled in a consistent manner on a daily basis. Tactfulness and finesse required at all times.
* Must have a solid understanding of policies and procedures in order to implement the same to staff.
* Extensive experience in a broadcast master control environment and at least five years of management experience in a broadcast facility.
* Must be technically literate with the ability to manage policy and procedure and possess computer skills. Must be willing to work various hours, weekends and holidays.
* Some travel may be required.
* Experience with master control switchers, automation systems and routers. Must have STRONG communication skills, a self-starter, well organized and detail-orientated. The ability to work multiple tasks and assist with project management is required. Solid understanding of video and audio theory (technical/functional expertise).
* Operational knowledge of application based media systems and equipment.
* Working knowledge of cloud based automation systems and solutions.
* Extensive experience with file based media formats.
* College degree in Communications or other related schooling required.
* Must be detail oriented, work quickly and efficiently, and have excellent grammar and spelling skills.
* Must be able to meet deadlines, work well under pressure, and be able to multi-task without compromising quality or accuracy.
* Must be flexible to support scheduling for 24/7 broadcast operations.
* This position is considered an essential position. This means that during times of inclement weather, emergencies, or when access to the workplace may be impeded, that employees in this position are expected to report to work to support business continuance, unless otherwise instructed by his/her direct manager.
