Full Time Job
Create closed caption files by editing existing captioning and/or transcribing show dialogue into caption blocks.
This role will emphasize editing existing timed transcripts for accuracy and grammar. The ideal candidate will be able to quickly find and fix minute errors between text and audio.
Responsibilities
1. Ensures that closed captioning work and files comply with Federal Communications Commission regulations and brand standards
2. Edits machine-generated timed transcripts to match program audio; this may include correcting minute discrepancies between transcript and program audio
3. Utilizes closed captioning software to create caption files and/or edit existing caption files
4. Transcribes text from audio soundtrack of programs
5. Formats text into readable caption blocks and assigns time code synced to show audio
6. Performs final review of shows with captions to check for spelling, grammar, or punctuation errors as well as ensure proper positioning of caption blocks
7. Coordinates with manager and other captioning staff to complete each day's schedule
8. Uses and manages caption and video files throughout the captioning workflow
9. Utilizes multiple databases to research/confirm various show metadata and statuses
10. Utilizes reference materials and the Internet to research terms, locations, foreign phrases, etc. to verify caption accuracy
11. Other tasks as described by department manager
Requirements
Education & Experience
* Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience
* Generally 2-4 years of experience in area of independent responsibility
* Strong background in English, preferably with a focus on editing
* Must have the legal right to work in the United States
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
* Attention to detail and strong editing skills
* Superb listening skills (candidate will be required to ensure transcripts match audio for both correctness and sync)
* Ability to interact with internal and external peers and/or managers to exchange semi-complex information related to assigned activities
* Application of basic functional/technical and business knowledge of the organization’s operations, methods, and practices
* Ability to adapt work pace and priorities in order to meet deadlines and goals
* Ability to learn software, systems, and technical processes relevant to closed captioning production and administration
* Advanced typing speed (75wpm or more) would be preferred
* Strong PC background with demonstrated proficiency in common office productivity tools (e.g. spreadsheet, text editor, email software)

* Capacity to juggle multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills
* Must be able to work collaboratively with team members
* Ability to work independently as well as in cross-functional groups
