Job Summary
The Executive in Charge of Human Resources is responsible for leading the DGA's HR department and developing strategic initiatives to support the full life cycle of the employee experience, the DGA's mission, and the overall success of the organization. This position is responsible for setting, enforcing, and evaluating legally compliant HR policies, procedures, and best practices, while identifying and implementing long-range strategic talent management and goals. The ideal candidate will have experience working in nonprofit organizations.
The DGA is a five-day-per-week, in-person workplace.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
• Support management and staff by providing expert human resources direction, advice, and guidance to assist with employment-related topics.
• Identify ways to support the DGA's mission through talent acquisition, onboarding, and management; help create a pipeline of talented future leaders.
• Work with the executive team to identify and develop internal career paths at all levels; develop resources to support a culture of ongoing learning for career employees.
• Provide direction and support on organizational culture and employee relations issues to build morale and ensure consistency in the application of policies, procedures, and employee relations best practices.
• Build a scalable HR infrastructure that can address the DGA's growth and changes in the organization's needs; includes hiring and developing experienced HR talent in alignment with the operating structure.
• Develop and implement HR practices that are aligned with organization objectives.
• Advise and coach managers on how to manage complex or sensitive employee performance matters through early intervention and appropriate corrective action.
• Conduct effective, thorough, and objective investigations.
• Perform other position-appropriate duties as required in a competent, professional and courteous manner.
What You Will Need:
• Excellent and professional written and verbal communication skills.
• Experience designing core HR processes including those related to compensation, benefits, timekeeping, performance management, and HR compliance.
• Expert knowledge of local, state (California & New York), and federal employment laws and procedures; knowledge of legal requirements related to day-to-day management of employees to reduce legal risks and ensure regulatory compliance.
• Strong emotional intelligence; excellent judgement and discretion; ability to manage conflict and resolve complex employee relations issues.
• Knowledge of current recruitment trends and technologies; ability to partner with internal stakeholders to develop recruitment strategies for hard-to-fill positions.
• Ability to manage a diverse and demanding workload.
• Ability to work both collaboratively and independently, set priorities, and handle multiple tasks with a high degree of efficiency.
• Comfort working within a complex reporting structure.
Minimum Qualifications:
• 12+ years of career experience with 8+ years in an HR leadership role.
• Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field required; MBA preferred.
• SPHR or SHRM-SCP strongly preferred.
• Experience supervising a team.
• Experience building effective employee morale programs.
• Expert knowledge of staffing and employment practices.
• Experience working in non-profit environment; union experience a plus.
