The Media Systems Chief Engineer is responsible for managing the overall health and functionality of the Digital Domain Media Systems infrastructure hardware, software and workflow as well as the Media Systems personnel. This includes, but is not limited to, the screening rooms, review rooms, edit suites, client suites, conference rooms and Media I/O.
Essential Functions/Responsibilities:
• Oversee the day-to-day personnel and operations of the Media Systems Department
• Manage priorities and assign resources as required
• Participate in show approach planning with key stake-holders and attend regular show status meetings. • Manages facility communications regarding Media Systems issues and provide updates to company management
• Development of media workflows
• Ensure documentation is maintained for all systems and services
• Ensure all color critical displays are calibrated correctly
• Collaborate with Editorial staff on management of Avid and Flame systems
• Perform annual reviews of Media Systems staff
• Design, budgeting, procurement, installation and training of new systems.
• Manage relevant vendor relationships
• Keep up to date on current and future technology trends in the industry
• Other duties as assigned
Education and/or Experience Required:
• 2 year or 4 year electronics technology or computer science degree
• 5+ years experience in high-end postproduction, visual effects or animation
• 2+ years managing a technology team in high-end postproduction, visual effects or animation
• Experience with administration of Linux, OS X and Windows operations systems
• Experience with Avid Media Composer and Unity/ISIS software and hardware
• Experience with Autodesk Flame hardware and software on Linux OS
• Experience with HDSDI, AES, TCP/IP, and other relevant transports and protocols
• Experience with digital file formats such as h.264, jpeg2000, EXR, DPX
• Experience with DLP based Digital Cinema Projectors and DCP Servers
• Experience with various Stereoscopic 3D projection systems
• Familiarity with the SMPTE and ITU standards in use in modern postproduction
• Experience with calibration of color critical monitors and projectors
• Ability to work nights and weekends on short notice as needed
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs
Working Conditions and Environment/Physical Demands:
• Office working environment
• Hours for this position are based on normal working hours but will require extra hours pending production needs
• Walking/bending/sitting
