Title
Technology Manager
Primary Responsibilities
- Oversee all technology for Creative department.
- Create and manage annual capital expenditure budgets for the department with emphasis on technology.
- Manage all professional audio/video equipment for the post-production department.
- Establish relationships with key technology vendors. Negotiate pricing and track all technology purchases.
- Maintain hardware and software inventory ensuring software license compliance.
- Work with departmental leads to understand all technology requirements. Liaison with internal and external technology groups to ensure departmental requirements are met.
- Manage SAN and NAS storage allocations. Monitor storage capacity daily on all production servers and communicate any storage concerns to the department.
- Manage and maintain departmental servers, render farm, and data archival/restoration systems.
- Stay current on all hardware and software upgrades as they become available. Thoroughly test and troubleshoot new hardware and software prior to deployment.
- Develop and manage departmental security policies for digital assets, user accounts, server and workstation access.
- Manage departmental Systems Administrator.
- Manage Macintosh motion graphic and editorial workstations as well as corporate PCs.
- Install, optimize, maintain, image and troubleshoot operating systems, software and hardware for Macintosh and PC workstations and laptops.
- Assist users in solving all Macintosh, PC, multimedia and server related problems over the phone and/or at the user’s location.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will possess the following knowledge, experience and skill-set:
- Bachelor of Science in Computer Information Systems or related field required.
- 3+ years managing technology in a post-production environment.
- Thorough knowledge of professional audio/video equipment including VTRs, professional displays, scopes, legalizers, AJA Kona I/O cards, mixing boards, routers and patching systems.
- Thorough knowledge of NTSC, PAL, SD, HD, stereoscopic and the various resolutions and frame rates.
- Thorough knowledge of SAN, NAS, server and render farm technology. Direct experience with Data Direct Networks, XSAN, Xserve, Blue Arc, EMC and Facilis a plus.
- Thorough knowledge of Open Directory and Apple Remote Desktop management.
- Thorough knowledge of LTO 4 and/or LTO 5 archive systems. Direct experience with Symantec Netbackup, Spectralogic and Storhouse a plus.
- In depth knowledge of how to install, configure, and troubleshoot the following software: Microsoft Office, Microsoft Outlook, Adobe Creative Suite (After Effects, Photoshop, Illustrator, In Design - CS4 and CS5.5), various After Effects plug-ins (Boris Continuum Complete, Knoll Light Factory, Trapcode Suite, Reel Smart Motion Blur, Gen Arts Sapphire), Final Cut Pro, Avid, Cinema 4D, Pro Tools and File Maker Pro.
- Thorough knowledge of the Macintosh operating system and how to properly configure a Mac workstation and laptop.
- UNIX knowledge and working in command line a plus.
- Basic knowledge of Windows operating systems.
- Excellent organizational skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment as well as independently, with minimal supervision.
- Ability to effectively manage multiple tasks and changing priorities.
- Ability to seek proactive solutions to difficult situations.
