Full Time Job
Reporting to the Creature Supervisor and Head of CG, the Creature Dept Technical Director (Creature Dept TD) will be involved in the creation and ongoing support of Rigging and Creature FX tools in a visual effects pipeline and asset management system.
Duties
• Design and develop C++ and or Python plugins to improve deformation and rigs performance for both Rigging and Creature FX.
• Design and develop scripts, tools and utilities with intuitive GUIs to facilitate smooth delivery of Creature assets
• Identify and ease bottlenecks and optimize artist workflows
• Work closely with Creature Supervisor and Head of CG to design and maintain tighter integration with the overall VFX pipeline
• Work with other stakeholders at Method facilities to aid in the global integration of the Rigging and Creature FX pipeline and subsequent tools
• Support Rigging and Creature FX team in technical issues, debugging any Maya-related or pipeline-related issues
Qualifications
• Excellent knowledge of Maya required
• Solid knowledge of Muscle, Skin, Hair simulation workflows as well as Rigging workflows.
• Solid experience writing custom deformer, plugins, tools in Python and C++ for Maya
• Solid programming experience writing GUIs in PyQT
• Solid Math experience
• Machine Learning and Deep Learning experience a plus
• Good knowledge of other animation software packages (e.g. Houdini) a plus
• Good working knowledge of Linux
• Experience as a CG artist, specifically in rigging or creature fx, a plus
• Some experience in code-sharing, revision control
• Undergraduate or Graduate degree in Computing Science or equivalent experience a plus
• Knowledge of Shotgun or other asset management systems a plus
• A strong sense of self-motivation and ability to work with little supervision
• Ability to communicate creative and technical thoughts and ideas clearly
• Able to take direction and adaptable to change
• Excellent improvising and problem-solving skills
