Job description
We're looking for an executive assistant /general manager who is passionate about progressive issues, believes in the vitality of independent journalism, and wants to uplift voices from marginalized communities. Your role will be to assist the executive team with writing, scheduling, and managing our online presence as well as managing many of the company's day-to-day logistical tasks. The ideal candidate is someone who is tech-savvy and proactive with great organizational skills.
The Laura Flanders Show brings in-depth discussion about racial, gender, economic, and environmental justice to national public television and radio every week. Hosted by award-winning social movement reporter and queer feminist author Laura Flanders, the show features in-studio interviews with forward thinking people - from AOC to Xiuhtezcatl, to Rep. Jamie Raskin to Laverne Cox-and field reporting on cutting-edge topics. The show is nationally syndicated reaching scores of radio and nearly 300 PBS stations, including in every major US media market. We also produce a podcast.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Executive Management: manage calendar, schedule, travel, and assist with external and internal communications for executive producer and host, Laura Flanders.
- Support Laura on a variety of projects. This could include writing, editing, researching, events preparation, copyediting, publicity and fact-checking.
- Organizational Operations and logistics: This may include budgeting, purchasing, managing services and accounts; responding to staff needs, developing systems.
- Monitoring organization's website for functionality and accuracy.
- As needed: creative consulting to development and communications teams, assisting with events, promotions, creative collaborations and partnerships.
- Research prizes and awards, and submit the show.
- Participating in group meetings, including once a week all-staff meetings, show ''pitch'' meetings, and ''retreats'' wherever possible.
Terms:
- Hours: Part time, 20 hours per week.
- Location: Remote position with 24-hour access to shared work facilities in New York, Philadelphia and Washington, DC.
- Report to Laura Flanders
- Flexibility: you are expected to work your full complement of hours every week and be available on a regular schedule with some flexibility.
- Contract term: One year, with a 3-month probationary period.
- Vacation: As outlined in the Employee Handbook, 2 to 4 weeks based on seniority.
- Health Benefit: Curious Communications does not offer a health insurance plan. Instead, after 3 months of employment, the company contributes towards employee's own plans (full time employees only. )
Required Skills:
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to anticipate needs and problems and tackle them proactively.
- Tech savvy. We use a number of digital tools, and it's important that you can teach yourself to use and manage them.
- Great communication skills. Ability to communicate effectively and in a timely manner.
- Familiarity with G Suite a plus.
- Knowledge of WordPress a plus.
- Ability to work with Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Canva a big plus.
This position is remote. We prefer applicants that are within three time zones of US Eastern Time. Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis until the position is filled.
