Studio A/V Tech Assistant (Full-Time)
Location: Hollywood Hills (Los Angeles)
Hours: 2pm - 10pm (flexible/discussable) Mon-Fri, depending on studio needs
A renowned electronic music and visual artist, as well as a film composer team, is hiring a second Tech Assistant to help manage studio operations, audio-visual assets, music technology systems, and IT support. This professional recording studio, located in the Hollywood Hills, is run by a platinum-selling electronic artist/producer and a prolific film composer with over 100 films scored. The work environment is creative, fun, and highly professional.
This role requires high-level proficiency in Final Cut Pro (with an emphasis on visual asset management) and ideally both Pro Tools and Ableton Live with strong skills in music production workflows, audio engineering, and digital audio troubleshooting. You will be in charge of implementing a brand-new Data Asset Management system for audio-visual assets.
The role supports both the artist's electronic music project (bass music, DnB, hip-hop, vocals, cinematic electronica) and film scoring projects, meaning your technical expertise will span two dynamic worlds. While not a creative position, you will be embedded in a high-level, professional music production environment, keeping systems streamlined and problem-free.
You'll work alongside the lead tech assistant (who provides training and guidance) and collaborate daily with this tight-knit team (also including a music assistant and studio manager). This role requires MUCH flexibility for remote assistance when needed (e.g., use TeamViewer and phone correspondence to troubleshoot issues) and to come in for emergencies when remote troubleshooting is insufficient. The candidate must be organized, detail-oriented, and resourceful. Above all, they must be extremely proactive and comfortable self-managing.
TECH DUTIES (delegated by and shared with Tech Lead)
- Troubleshoot Final Cut Pro and other audiovisual workflows, organizing and maintaining
storage for thousands of visual assets.
- Support AV setups for live electronic music and multimedia performances.
- Manage data and backups (cloud/local automation, archiving, media organization).
- Perform daily resets and functionality tests on DAWs, VEP servers, monitors, microphones, and studio gear.
- Manage and troubleshoot Pro Tools and Ableton Live sessions, templates, plug-ins, and workflows.
- Optimize DAW performance, signal flow, and hardware/software integration.
- Handle plugin installations, licensing, and updates across multiple systems.
- Assist with gear acquisition, setup, and implementation in the studio.
- Maintain Mac and Windows systems (network, server, computer upkeep).
REQUIRED SKILLS
- Video & A/V Knowledge (Highest Priority): Understanding of codecs, frame rates, Final Cut Pro basics, and asset management. Experience with FXFactory, LUTs, FCP plugins.
- Pro Tools Proficiency (Equal Priority): Confident with routing, I/O setup, plugin troubleshooting, templates, and film scoring workflows.
- Ableton Live Proficiency (Equal Priority): Skilled in session building, MIDI routing, complex signal chains, and electronic music workflows.
- Music Technology Expertise: Deep understanding of audio engineering principles, studio troubleshooting, and music production environments.
- macOS Mastery: Able to resolve system issues, navigate Audio MIDI Setup, Terminal, and networks.
- Windows Competency: VEP usage, system monitoring, and troubleshooting.
- Exposure to audiovisual performance setups
- Strong organizational skills, resourcefulness, and ability to self-manage.
- Must use an iPhone for this role.
Bonus Skills (Plus Points):
- Vienna Ensemble Pro experience
- Keyboard Maestro scripting knowledge
- Familiarity with orchestral libraries and film scoring workflows
This position is best for someone who:
- Thrives on technical problem-solving in DAWs and studio systems.
- Is passionate about both music engineering for electronic production and supporting film scoring workflows.
- Wants to contribute to projects at the intersection of music, film, and multimedia performance.
