PRODUCTION ASSISTANT FOR NEW PODCAST (NYC)
ROLE OVERVIEW
We're seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Production Assistant to support during all aspects of production. This contract role requires flexibility, strong communication skills, and a willingness to tackle a variety of tasks from pre-production planning to post-production coordination. Most importantly, you'll be an integral part of a small, collaborative team with opportunities to take on new responsibilities as the podcast expands.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Pre-Production
• Research episode topics and potential guests.
• Assist in creating episode outlines/run-of-show.
• Coordinate guest bookings (scheduling, tech specs, follow-up).
• Maintain production calendars and track deadlines/deliverables.
Production
• Set up, test, and operate recording equipment (microphones, cameras, lighting).
• Take notes during recording sessions for editing reference and show notes.
• Troubleshoot minor technical issues alongside the producer.
• Plan and execute live podcast events, panels, and meet-ups (including San Diego Comic-Con).
• Capture behind-the-scenes photos and videos for promotional use.
Post-Production
• Work with editor to organize, label, and back up recorded media.
• Support editor with basic editing tasks (e.g., removing background noise, cutting segments).
• Create accurate transcripts for accessibility and repurposing.
• Review episode edits and provide feedback.
• Deliver finalized episodes to hosting platforms (Apple Podcasts, Spotify, etc.).
• Assist in creating promotional assets (audiograms, social media posts, newsletters).
Administrative & Coordination
• Organize and maintain digital files using project management tools.
• Provide on-the-ground support, including errands (equipment pickups, coffee/food runs).
• Support production meetings, creative sessions, and events.
Must be comfortable with dogs!
EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS
• BA in Film/TV, Theater, Marketing, Communications, or related field (or equivalent experience).
• Previous experience or internships in a production environment (podcasting, radio, or postproduction sound) is a plus.
• Basic knowledge of audio/video recording techniques and equipment.
• Familiarity with editing/post-production software (e.g., Adobe Premiere, Audition).
• Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, and Google Calendar; experience with Asana/Slack is a plus.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills; comfortable engaging with high-profile talent.
• Exceptional attention to detail, organization, and time management.
• Adaptable and proactive in a fast-paced setting.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
• Availability: Must be able to attend in-person recording sessions in NYC (typically every other week during regular business hours). Occasional evenings/weekends may be required for events or guest availability.
• Location: NYC-based, hybrid work arrangement (remote on non-production days).
• Travel: Local in-person production in NYC; potential out-of-town travel for events.
• Work Authorization: Must be legally authorized to work in the U.S.
• Start Date: ASAP.
COMPENSATION
• $18 - 25 per hour (contract, commensurate with experience)
