Confidential
Remote, NYThis is a Part Time Unpaid Internship
Music Business / Artist Development Intern
Music Composer, Independent recording artist, songwriter and producer is seeking a proactive Music Business / Artist Development Intern to work hands-on across an active independent music career.
This is an opportunity to get inside the real-world workings of an independent artist career, from releases, catalog and metadata to digital marketing, sync/licensing, content and live opportunities.
We're looking for someone who is excited to dig into an existing body of work and help identify ways to organize it, position it and connect it with new audiences and opportunities.
A particular area of focus will be sync, scoring and A&R-style catalog research. The ideal candidate is genuinely interested in listening to music analytically: understanding where a song might fit, researching current film/TV and other media, identifying relevant music supervisors and industry contacts, and helping prepare thoughtful, targeted outreach.
What You'll Learn + Work On
• Listening to and becoming familiar with an existing catalog from a sync/A&R perspective
• Researching film, television, advertising, trailer, gaming and other potential sync opportunities
• Researching music supervisors, sync companies, agencies, production companies and other relevant contacts
• Organizing and developing the artist's existing industry/contact database
• Researching current shows and projects to identify where particular songs or pieces of music could potentially fit
• Helping prepare targeted sync outreach, playlists and pitching materials
• Organizing catalog metadata, credits, releases, stems and related music assets
• Organizing and maintaining artist photos, video, press, promotional materials and a media/content vault
• Digital marketing research, strategy and hands-on campaign execution
• Social media and content planning around releases and catalog
• Helping connect existing music, visuals, story and content in strategic ways online
• Developing and updating EPKs, one-sheets, bios, playlists and other artist materials
• Researching venues, festivals, showcases and live performance opportunities
• Researching press, playlist, partnership and audience-development opportunities
• Preparing targeted outreach and tracking follow-up
• Helping evaluate campaigns and identify what is and isn't connecting
Projects will vary depending on current releases, performances and opportunities.
Who We're Looking For
We're looking for someone proactive, curious, highly organized and genuinely interested in independent music and artist development.
You don't need to already know everything. But if you encounter something you don't know, your instinct should be to research it, explore possible solutions and come back with ideas.
You should be comfortable taking ownership of projects without needing constant step-by-step direction. Strong research skills, attention to detail, follow-through and good communication are important.
Someone with a genuine A&R ear would be especially interesting: a person who loves listening to music, understanding what makes a song work, thinking about where it belongs and making connections between music and visual storytelling.
An interest or background in sync/licensing, music supervision, A&R, music business, digital marketing, artist development, live music or artist management would be particularly useful.
Experience with Google Workspace, Notion, Canva, social platforms, digital marketing tools or music-industry databases is helpful but not required.
Location
Remote. Depending on location and current projects, there may also be opportunities to participate in performances, shoots, studio projects and industry events.
Schedule
Approximately 10-15 hours per week with flexibility around school schedules.
The internship will run for a defined term, with the possibility of extending by mutual agreement.

This is an unpaid educational internship designed to provide hands-on experience and professional development within an active independent artist career.

Additional Information
The artist has independently developed and released multiple records, performed in various live settings, and has extensive experience creating music and visual worlds around independent releases. Their music has been featured in numerous film and television projects, including Percy Jackson and the Olympians, Ray Donovan, Masters of Sex, The Fosters, and Netflix's How to Become a Tyrant. The artist's strengths lie in songwriting, production, composition, artist identity, storytelling, visual direction, and building a cohesive world around their music.
Please also tell us about something you've taken ownership of - a campaign, event, artist project, school project, organization, creative project or something entirely your own. What needed to happen, what did you personally do to move it forward, and what happened as a result?
If sync, A&R or music supervision is an area you're particularly interested in, we'd also love to hear about that.
We're less interested in years of experience than in finding someone smart, motivated, resourceful and excited to learn by doing
