Facilities Engineer
Studio City, CA
Summary:
The Facilities Engineer, is a key component of the post services division with proven skill in implementing and supporting broadcast, streaming and feature film sound mastering systems, digital intermediate color grading systems, online editorial and picture post-production infrastructure and workflow.
The Facilities Engineer must work well in a fast-paced, collaborative environment and effectively communicate with clients, co-workers, and third party vendors. As the Facilities Systems Engineer, you will be responsible for maintaining and resolving complex technical problems across our hardware infrastructure and software landscape including hardware implementation and maintenance, internet/file server connectivity, file/print, DNS, DHCP, storage, asset security, and managing the network. The Facilities Engineer will report to the Director of Facility Operations. The position is primarily onsite (in facility) with some remote support work possible.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
• Strong networking skills for LAN/WAN management. Must be able to program network switches & firewalls as well troubleshoot day-to-day network problems.
• Strong knowledge of various switches and switch management (including Dell and Nvidia switches)
• Deep understanding of video signal flow, varying bit depths, HDR vs SDR (including signal flow point devices such as aja, blackmagic design, etc.)
• Understanding of Data Management and related storage issues
• Understanding of various data storage and zoning (SAN, NAS, Avid specific filesystems, Tiger Spaces, Stornext, Synology, ZFS, smb, cifs, nfs, afp, etc).
• Knowledge of Virtual Machines including VMware and Hyper- V
• Knowledge of Linux and CentOS, Ubuntu, RedHat
• Develop and maintain positive working relationships with customers and internal departments to ensure all are aware of our operational requirements and workflows
• Work with Operations to effectively execute hardware and software workflows and file deliveries to the highest company quality standards
• Installing, Building, Maintaining and troubleshooting company video, audio and data infrastructure including topologies, signal flow design, and routing
• Deploying and maintaining picture and sound mastering suites
• Work with IT support to maintain software and networking infrastructure as needed
• Desktop support for Mac and PC users
• Upgrade computers, RAM, Video Cards, hard drives, etc
• Server data management and coordinating with staff to delete unnecessary data
• Work with DMO to Backup/Archive show data to various formats of LTO and external hard drives
• Serve as a technical evangelist to exploit new technologies to improve operational efficiencies, reduce costs and maintain the highest quality and standards
• Help lead on boarding meetings with clients, staff and studios
• Package computer/ monitors/ accessories for offsite deployments and create a packing list with contents, asset numbers, weight, etc.
• Ability to help prepare, distribute and explain WPD (work process documents) to operator staff
• Must accept accountability and responsibility for engineering operations
• Work calm and level headed under pressure
• Ability to trouble shoot and fix general technical problems within the facility
• Ability to trouble shoot and provide solutions to workflow problems during a project
• Advise and offer process improvements to management to help advance workflows and policies to better departments and company
• Provide technical leadership for the design, development/implementation of integrating legacy and new technologies
• Keeping up to date on new technology, standards, protocols and tools in areas relevant to the rapidly changing digital environment
• Contribute guidance as needed for capital expenditures and forecasting on regular basis
• Maintain equipment inventories
• Ability to prepare facility for TPN and MPAA network audits and take ownership and responsibility for network security
Other Related Duties:
• Installing, Building, Maintaining and troubleshooting data equipment, infrastructure and resources
• Interfacing with clients to set expectations and provide support and technical assurance
• Equipment includes: Shared Media Storage systems, Editing systems, Networking Infrastructure.
• Developing, deploying and maintaining remote editorial systems, streaming media system, project collaboration workflows and media file syncing across multiple locations
• Effectively communicate open and completed tasks via company ticketing and support tracking system Organizational skills, attention to detail, ability to work in a manner that maintains company inventory, purchases, software upgrades and infrastructure
• Diplomacy and sensitivity when working and communicating with clients Working knowledge of Microsoft Exchange/ Office 365/Windows 10, ActiveSync Working knowledge of SAN, NAS and Networking Installing, Building, Maintaining and troubleshooting facility equipment, infrastructure and resources including Shared Media Storage systems, Editing systems, Networking Infrastructure.
• Consistent review of technology and systems and full accountability and effectiveness in implementing upgrades, new technical offerings and remedies
Education & Experience:
• 5+ Years experience as an engineer in a Post Production facility
• College degree or equivalent industry experience in IT and/or computer engineering highly recommended
