Creative Development Consultant
About the Role
Oscar and Emmy-winning production company is seeking a Creative Development Consultant to provide senior-level creative and strategic advice across our slate of unscripted and scripted projects. This is a retainer-based contract role requiring a commitment of four days per week.
The consultant must be located in the greater New York City area and will work in a hybrid model, splitting time between remote work and in-office collaboration. After an initial four-month term, there is potential for the role to convert into a full-time staff position based on performance, company needs, and mutual interest. This position is ideal for a seasoned development executive, producer, or creative strategist with strong story instincts and a sophisticated understanding of today's film and television marketplace.
Key Responsibilities
• Provide high-level creative notes on scripts, treatments, decks, and pitch materials
• Shape and refine original concepts from early-stage ideation through pitch readiness
• Identify the core narrative engine, thematic positioning, and commercial viability of projects
• Advise on packaging strategy, including talent targeting and attachment recommendations
• Strengthen loglines, series overviews, and pitch positioning language
• Guide buyer targeting strategy across streamers, premium cable, broadcast, and independent film markets
• Contribute to overall slate strategy and long-term development planning
• Mentor and collaborate with mid-level development support staff
Qualifications
• 7+ years of experience in film and/or television development
• Background at a production company, studio, network, streamer, or agency
• Demonstrated track record of projects sold, set up, or produced
• Deep familiarity with current buyer landscape and platform mandates
• Exceptional editorial judgment and clear communication skills
• Ability to lead creatively while working collaboratively within a team structure
• Unscripted experience a must; scripted experience strongly preferred
