New York Based Avant Garde Costume Designer or Stylist for Film
We are seeking a Costume Designer or Stylist with wildly experimental leanings to design or style
clothing for an artist and a dancer in film. Candidate must know how to sketch, shop, sew, fit or put together team to do so.
$600 budget is entire budget for styling and out of this you must style and pay yourself but you may combine shopping or designing
with obtaining clothes on borrow in the form of exchange. We will acknowledge their boutique in the credits, you only have to submit names of places to the producers - however you would be responsible for selecting items and negotiating that deal (if needed).
And that may be a Jacket or a watch. We encourage use of Theater Development Fund, to keep costs down - but there are other collectives one may use if the boutique approach isn't you.
Turn around time is end of April.
Applicant will need to style every day wear for two male characters, design or shop (style) striking/eclectic outfit for artist in film, style or design for Go Go dancer (not exotic dancer) and capable of working independently. You may bring in an intern or request one to work with you, but you will be required to be on set for some of each shooting day in May.
Designer or Stylist candidate must have portfolio to show during interview -or- jpegs that can be sent digitally -or- website director can consult for your work. Candidate's design or styling work needs to be seen.
Please do not apply if you do not have something prepared to show.
Dynamic story/film producers hope to run the film festival circuit with, securing larger interest to return for feature film.
So, better pay and larger exposure possible later.
Designer/stylist and filmmaker will create powerful synthesis of each artist's creative ideas for screen so candidate must respect and enjoy collaboration process. Great communication skills, balanced ego, sense of respect, strong design concepts, creativity and an understanding of what it is to work on a team moving toward a unified vision - are all very needed.
If Designer/stylist has worked off character before, it will be helpful (but not necessary).
Applicant will need to work with choreographer so the designs or chosen clothing works, the art director so sets/colors/schemes of film and costumes compliment one another -or- consciously clash, the producer on costumes' budget, and the director so the costumes truly express the character's lives and story.
Therefore designer or stylist should be a visionary but also very capable of collaboration, healthy communication and professionalism. There is no solitary artist in film.
Immediate start.
