The Media Access Group creates captions, subtitles and descriptions for a variety of media clients, including PBS and commercial television networks, movies, DVDs, digital media and environmental installations. The Media Access Group (MAG) is a pioneer in making media accessible for people with sensory disabilities. The Caption Center (TCC) was the first captioning agency in the world. We helped pioneer the development of line-21 closed captioning for viewers who are deaf or hard of hearing and we remain on the forefront of caption technology. Our audio description unit, Descriptive Video Service (DVS), provides important information about the visual elements of a program through the use of an additional narrative audio track.
Under the supervision of the Operations Manager, the Caption editor is responsible for transcribing the audio portion of a program and create a timed text tracks or caption files intended for use by deaf and hard-of-hearing viewers. Individuals work independently to carefully transcribe from audio and create scripts. Caption editor work independently to transcribe, time and place captions for the deaf and hard-of-hearing audience for a variety of media and clients including, but not limited to, network broadcast, home video/DVD and first-run feature films. Caption editors retain responsibility for maintaining MAG style preferences and consistencies. Caption editor is responsible for meeting MAG deadlines in our continued efforts to provide excellent customer service.
QUALIFICATIONS:
• 1-3 years of Closed captioning editor experience required.
• Candidates must demonstrate superior English language skills including proofreading, editing, grammar, spelling and typing.
• Candidates must be able to type 60+ wpm for extended periods and work under tight deadlines and have a commitment to detail, quality and productivity.
• General knowledge of video and audio files is preferred.
• Familiarity with Swift, EZTitles, MacCaption and Windows-base software is required.
We will need to fill the position soon with a total of 40 hours per week. This a full time project contract basis. Currently, we have transitioned to a remote work model and are continuing to hire during this time. This role is expected to begin as a remote position with a possibility of transitioning to in-office work but it will be determined taking into account your individual circumstances and the Health and Safety Guidelines of the company.
