The Managing Director is a new position that offers the opportunity to bring your experiences and expertise to shape the role while making an impact on bringing greater inclusion to the art and craft of music creation.
Composers Diversity Collective (CDC) seeks a Managing Director to oversee, expand, and enhance the programmatic and revenue goals and mission of the organization.
CDC is an organization of music creators striving to evolve the entertainment industry to reflect the diversity of our broader society. The vision of the CDC is to tackle the industry's talent pipeline challenges by increasing the visibility and access to underrepresented and culturally diverse music creators, music supervisors, sound engineers, and musicians. We also seek to create an inclusive community that helps grow our awareness of each other while dispelling misconceptions and biases about the stylistic range of composers from minoritized communities.
The mission of CDC is threefold:
1) To increase the visibility of underrepresented music creators to industry producers and creatives via networking opportunities and performances
2) To offer education and mentorship to emerging composers in underserved communities
3) To service the global community through music
POSITION SUMMARY
Reporting to the Board President, the Managing Director is responsible for all administrative business operations, accounting, program and events management, membership cultivation, and external communications. The Managing Director works closely with the CDC Board to develop strategies to build membership and manages a small team of administrative staff in the implementation of the objectives as set out in the mission statement. The Managing Director is a key liaison for CDC advocacy initiatives and seeks out and nurtures industry partnerships
This position is an ideal opportunity for an organized, strategic thinker, with senior-level administrative experience seeking a part-time role with a flexible work schedule.
RESPONSIBILITIES
A. Operations
- Manage the operational systems and processes in support of the mission:
- Create and manage an annual budget in collaboration with Board
- Conduct budgetary quarterly assessments and reporting
- Manage grantor contracts and reimbursement requests
- Administer required governmental and insurance filings
- Supervise and direct the work of support staff including an Administrative Assistant, Bookkeeper, IT Support, and member volunteers
- Maintaining CDC archival and administrative files
- Prompt and professional responses to email requests pertaining to CDC activities
B. Event and Program Management
- Ensure that Board, Committee and Membership objectives and goals are met by organizing and managing events:
- Organize and prepare for Board and Standing Committee meetings
- Ensure meeting minutes are tracked and disseminated in a timely fashion
- Plan and oversee CDC events including Monthly Mixer, Membership Meeting, and Industry and Educational Outreach Activities
- Manage vendor relationships and event logistics including venue arrangements and catering
C. Membership Management
- Serve as the primary point of contact to track and engage CDC membership:
- Recommend and implement strategies to grow the membership
- Manage and disseminate member correspondence, emails and newsletters
- Manage timely member support on an ongoing, regular basis
- Member Database oversight including data management and reporting
D. Marketing and Communications
- Create and maintain CDC's open lines of communication between current and potential members, Committee Chairs and Board Members:
- Facilitate open and collaborative communication between and among Committee Chairs and Board Members
- Write and create special correspondences and member emails and/or newsletters
- Oversee Social Media Updates in partnership with volunteers
- Manage and maintain CDC website
- Contribute to a variety of marketing activities as needed
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS & ESSENTIAL SKILLS
- Minimum 3 years professional administrative and operational experience in an office setting.
- Interest in the entertainment, arts and/or nonprofit industries
- Associates Degree and above or equivalent work experience
- Program or project management experience
- Experience with leading teams, organizations or volunteer pools
- Experience working with nonprofit boards, grants organizations and high-profile donors
- Knowledgeable in concepts of cultural sensitivity, diversity, equity and inclusion
- Competent in working effectively across cultures and identities
- Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills with the ability to tailor messaging for different audiences
- Intermediate and above proficiency in word processing, spreadsheet, presentation and database software (e.g., MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Airtable, GoogleDocs, GoogleSheets, GoogleSlides, etc.)
IDEAL SKILLS & EXPERIENCE
- Networks and connections to film and television/entertainment industry
- Event production or live events experience
- Fundraising and Development experience
- Experience in grants administration, fundraising and membership development
- Experience advising on strategy and operational planning
HOURS & LOCATION
This position is part-time, 15-25 hours a week, with a flexible schedule that accommodates evenings and weekends. This is a hybrid role, primarily working remotely but requires the ability to attend in-person meetings and events in Los Angeles as needed.
