Position Summary:
Job ID: 900197
The position reports to the Post Production Manager and provides operational maintenance and first level support of investigation and resolution of hardware, software, networking, security and system design problems, associated with digital video editing systems in the Cinema Art + Science post production facilities.
Duties & Responsibilities:
• Evaluate and prioritize user issues. Follow up with users on routine problems, referring and documenting more complex problems to the Post Production Manager.
• Trouble shoot digital editing and finishing workflow issues. Insure both equipment and software calibration and OS compatibility.
• Perform routine monitoring, maintenance and upgrade of equipment on a schedule appropriate to facility wide compatibility standards as set forth by the Post Production Manager. Provide reports documenting historical and up to date status of equipment and software releases in use.
• Manage networked student storage servers. Collaborate with other technical staff to build and maintain IT infrastructure; work closely with college IT and Facilities staff to assist with special projects. Maintain student network storage accounts.
• Assist in the distribution, installation and configuration of software and hardware for CA+S classrooms, faculty and staff. Work closely with CA+S staff on supporting digital workflow in the broader curriculum.
• Provide curricular support for classes using post production facilities. Prepare documentation and training materials for classes. Teach tutorials and modules of, the post production curriculum.
• Assist students, faculty and staff with equipment and application use department wide. Troubleshoot and repair Apple and PC systems.
• Assist with day-to-day operations of computer labs, including opening/closing evening and weekend hours as assigned.
Qualifications:
Education
• Bachelor's degree in a Cinema related field (e.g., Digital Film Production, Post Production, CVFX).
• 2 - 3 years' experience communicating with and supporting the technical needs of end users and providing technical support and maintenance for the technical operation and support of video and computer-related facilities.
• 2 - 3 years' experience supporting digital workflow in either a commercial/advertising or feature film post production facility preferred.
• Apple desktop, laptop and server certifications are preferred.
• Working knowledge of basic network troubleshooting including TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP recommended.
Skills and Experience:
• Proficiency with current protocols in digital video networking, storage, applications and operating systems for both Mac and PC. Knowledge of film and digital post production workflow.
• Demonstrated level of proficiency in trouble shooting MacIntosh and PC hardware and operating systems, along with advanced knowledge of digital applications for post-production, motion graphics and digital animation. Knowledge of AVID, Apple and Adobe products, along with an appropriate understanding of specific system requirements for digital editing storage and applications is mandatory.
• High attention to detail with a demonstrated, proactive ability to organize and respond to varying requests/priorities.
• Strong interpersonal communication skills, both verbally and in writing, as well as the ability to express thoughts and ideas effectively to others through a variety of media to individuals or groups; demonstrated ability to convey information to non-technical colleagues in a concise and understandable way.
• Ability to maintain regular consistent and professional attendance, punctuality, and adherence to office protocols and college policies and procedures; a motivated self-starter with a strong work ethic and conscientious about getting the job done quickly and well and knowing when assistance is required in problem-solving.
• While performing duties of this job, the employee is required to manage complexity associated with a fast-paced work environment and multiple priorities/tasks. The employee will be required to make judgment decisions and adapt to changing work situations, grasp and apply new ideas, communicate with various personalities at all levels and have the ability to lead and innovate.
• Incumbent may be required to work afternoon, evening, and Saturday hours, with rotating days off throughout the academic year. Hours through the summer months may also vary.
• This position entails interaction with students and faculty, individually and in class settings, as well as staff, and thus requires an awareness of and comfort with standards of collegiality and responsibility.
