The Job
The Video Producer is a key member of the editorial and control room staff, leading and managing the associate producers and production assistants during the day as they screen, select and edit the video, still images, sound bites and graphical elements which will air during the broadcast. He/she serves as the primary liaison between the show and package producers during the day: coordinating hit times, tracking the production process and working with producers and editors to generate exciting packaged material. In the control room, the video producer serves as an important editorial voice. He/she is responsible for managing and stacking all visual elements and working with the Executive Producer, Senior Broadcast Producer, Director and Technical Director to screen, organize and prioritize all video and sound before it airs.
The Daily
The Video Producer is the primary control room point of contact for package producers and associate producers as they funnel material on-air. He/she is also responsible for coordinating and ingesting video elements during breaking news. From time-to-time, he/she may be called upon to produce packages or edit video. The ideal candidate should be proficient in conducting interviews and writing package scripts. He/she must be able to handle an intense and stressful breaking news environment and turn elements around quickly and accurately in the control room.
The Essentials
Qualifications:
Minimum of two to three years production experience in the news television industry. Must be a proven leader with strong organizational skills, solid news judgment as well as written, verbal, interpersonal communication, research and production skills. Needs strong writing skills; eventually may be called upon to independently write television scripts. A candidate should be proficient in using basic video editing software. He/she should have standard knowledge of field news gathering.
