The Job
CNN is looking for a supervising producer to act as newsgathering Beat Leader for our Race & Equality beat. The right candidate will bring a mix of urgent newsgathering sensibilities, thoughtful enterprise story ideas and a strong sense of network television operations.
The Daily
• Own the editorial space of this beat by identifying and tracking the top few daily emerging national stories relating to Race & Equality. Hands-on execution of daily plans to chase those stories and push editorial to the network, leveraging the resources of both the core beat team and the wider national newsgathering desk and bureau operations
• Break new reporting in this space keep CNN competitive by actively monitoring competitors and other outlets
• Communicate early and often with national news executives to elevate stories that need more attention and formulate plans to execute on them
• Coordinate with CNN shows, assignment desk and the digital team to make sure the best of the day's reporting is getting showcased
• Partner with digital Race & Equality team, especially that team's senior editor, to set the beat agenda for both daily and longer-term coverage
• Formulate and submit enterprise TV package pitches on at least a weekly basis
• Approve reporting, TV scripts and digital stories; coordinate discussion with the legal and standards departments; and view final edited produced packages when possible.
• Actively provide editorial guidance on Race & Equality issues for all platforms – including show segments, digital stories, and newsgathering's reporting not directly within this unit
• Work with planning staff to coordinate upcoming coverage of developing stories.
• Lead, coach, and develop the team
• Other duties as assigned in 24/7 work environment
• Report to Vice President of News in Atlanta

• Extensive experience in editorial decision-making, 10-plus years, including some time spent in management
• Proven ability to work with all levels of management and talent
• Proven leadership and ability to build a team
• College degree preferred
