Your New Role…
We're looking for a National Security Producer I who is passionate about covering National Security stories, particularly the Pentagon and US military. The National Security Producer I is a critical role for the national security unit contributing both original reporting, writing news stories for digital and supporting TV correspondent's ability to report live and pieces simultaneously and to help position the network to be across key developments on air and digital.
The position is essential for all elements of newsgathering at the Pentagon, including daily reporting on events and news and representing CNN and the other networks as the pool producer on VIP trips around the world
Your Role Accountabilities…
• The Producer will work in close collaboration with colleagues on CNN's stellar National Security team in the Washington bureau and around the globe.
• This role may involve working early mornings, evenings and/or weekends as the news cycle and deadlines require.
Write quickly, accurately, and insightfully when major news breaks.
• Pitch ideas, including original reporting and fresh angles on important US defense stories.
• Explain complex stories to domestic and international audiences.
• Collaborate with colleagues across the national security team, in Washington and internationally.
• Build sourcing across the beat.
Qualifications
& Experience…
• 5 years experience
• Excellent reporting and writing skills.
• Experience covering national security
• Covering the Pentagon preferred
• An ability to think of innovative ways to present stories.
• A willingness and ability to collaborate
