This is a Full Time Job
The Writer-Producer is responsible for writing scripts, planning segments, and producing CNNI shows. They take editorial guidance from anchors and producers based in London and Atlanta. When producing, they determine the rundown, react to breaking news, and manage the control room as programs go to air. A significant part of their shift involves studying wires and collaborating with the assignment desk, supervisors, and the show team to decide how CNNI will cover and present stories each day. Additionally, the Writer-Producer provides feedback to the guest booking team on show guests and offers ideas and guidance on guests for future shows. The ideal candidate must be able to work evenings.
Your Role Accountabilities…
• Responsible for all aspects of the show, taking the programme to air from the control room.
• Exercise robust editorial judgement in planning news shows and breaking news.
• Handle live breaking news effectively.
• Ensure all scripts, graphics, and video materials are ready before the show.
• Demonstrate creativity in packaging news and creating segments.
• Study wires and collaborate with the assignment desk and show team to determine daily story coverage.
• Write elements of the show, including the show open, teases, and special segment setups.
• Oversee control room staff to ensure the show airs as planned.
• Be prepared to change the running order quickly if news changes or technical issues arise.
• Provide feedback and ideas to the guest booking team for current and future shows.
• Contribute to the digital strategy and coverage storytelling on-air and online.
Qualifications & Experience…
• Proven experience in a news environment managing control room operations and outputting newscasts.
• Able to work evenings.
• Excellent written and verbal English, languages other than English are a plus.
• Thorough knowledge of international news.
• Good knowledge of television production.
• Specialty knowledge of an industry, subject matter or region of the world is advantageous.
Hybrid Working - This role is advertised as a Hybrid work model, that combines remote and in-office work, following our current company policy and to be agreed with your Line Manager. Subject to any applicable laws, WBD / your Line Manager reserves the right to change this working agreement where this is essential to business needs and upon reasonable notice to you.
