This is a Full Time Job
We are seeking a PM Breaking News Editor to join. Working as part of a diverse global team of editors and writers, the ideal candidate will help shape our digital live news coverage and identify priorities of the day, from delivering timely nuggets of information to contextualizing a fast-moving story. This editor will be responsible for assigning and editing news reporting, including handing off live coverage from the United States to teams in the Asia-Pacific region. You will be charged with the news agenda during your hours: If something breaks during that time, you will help determine how to respond. This position offers a reporting structure that allows you to work with multiple teams, from TV to digital, newsgathering to visuals and design and product.
Your Role Accountabilities…
This position is primarily a breaking news editing role, and the ideal candidate will:
• Coordinate news updates around the day's biggest stories by leveraging CNN's massive reach and presence around the world.
• Work closely with writers to deepen our breaking news storytelling with comprehensive reporting.
• Collaborate with editors to update existing breaking news stories and organize story coverage, including handling visual and video elements.
• Create high visibility pieces of content that provide valuable and necessary information for our global audiences.
• Partner with teams across the network to make sure every update you put out has been vetted and is publishable.
• This position may require working weekends if major news breaks.
Qualifications & Experience…
• Bachelor's degree in Journalism or English highly preferred
• 4 + years of relevant work experience; digital writing experience preferred
• Strong news judgment and copy-editing skills
• Ability to switch gears between several different news events on a given day
• Ability to write quickly and follow our style and standards of news reporting
• Ability to incorporate media into written content (photos, videos, tweets, etc.)
• Ability to adapt to changing protocols for publishing
• Ability to communicate effectively and have strong organizational skills
