Responsibilities
OVERVIEW
The Reporter works with the CNBC.com APAC editorial team to produce stories using a content management system, pitch story ideas, and report and write original news stories for a fast-paced, business and financial news website.
• Writing fast and accurate breaking news copy
• Pitching, reporting and writing news and analysis stories with a business, markets, economics or politics focus
• Speaking directly with government sources and business leaders for information and insight, and scanning research notes and reports for analysis on economic data or business and political developments
• Closely monitoring trends and events in global politics, trade, technology and business
• Writing copy that complies with CNBC.com standards, making it compelling to CNBC's audience
• Researching financial markets and economic data for appropriate stories and content on the site
• Using the site's content management system to make a story as compelling and attractive as possible through the use of pictures, graphics and appropriate links.
• Making use of social media and other tools to promote CNBC.com content
• Working closely with CNBC.com and the TV production teams to make sure the most relevant and compelling content is produced for CNBC.com.
• Depending on the candidate's profile and development plan, updating CNBC.com pages in a timely and accurate manner, assigning stories and sub-editing copy
• Exhibiting a readiness and adaptability to expand into other media, including TV, podcasts, digital video and graphics
Qualifications
/Requirements
-In-depth knowledge of financial markets, business, politics and economic news as well as a broad perspective of the Asia Pacific region
-Demonstrated experience working for a news outlet
-Experience in writing stories with a business, markets, economics or political focus on a regular basis
-Strong news sense, good eye for detail, able to submit clean and accurate copy
-Demonstrated self-starter who is able to work independently or as part of a team, and who has the ability to make decisions quickly in a fast-paced, breaking news environment
-Excellent verbal communication skills to foster good relations with colleagues as well as contacts, sources and colleagues from other departments
-Initiative to follow up on story ideas and be a proactive reporter
-Demonstrated ability to prioritize a wide range of tasks coupled with the ability to operate under tight deadlines efficiently & accurately
-Familiarity with data sources for research
-Relevant university degree required
-A clear understanding of CNBC's editorial and programming priorities
-A flexible attitude to working different shifts occasionally when required
-Eligible to work in Singapore
-Fluency in English
-Ability to speak at least one Asian language would be an advantage
-Experience of working in content management systems and digital media platforms desirable
-Experience of working for a leading wire service or business news website desirable
