Private Markets and Alternatives Investing Reporter, CNBC
Company Description
Job Description
CNBC is seeking a multimedia Private Markets and Alternatives Reporter to lead coverage of one of the most important structural shifts in global finance: the rise of private markets.
This reporter will break news, deliver enterprise reporting and provide sharp insight into private equity, private credit, venture capital, real assets, hedge funds and other alternative investment strategies. The role requires a deep understanding of how capital is flowing across public and private markets - and how institutional and private wealth investors are reshaping the investment landscape.
The ideal candidate will bring a strong grasp of broader market dynamics - including equities, credit and options - and understand how private funds interact with public markets. This reporter will develop exclusive stories and big-picture investing trend pieces that explain what's happening in alternatives and why it matters to institutional investors, wealth managers and retail audiences alike.
This is a multimedia role requiring reporting and production for television, digital and social platforms.
What You'll Do
• Break news and deliver enterprise reporting on private equity, private credit, venture capital, hedge funds and other alternative asset classes.
• Develop exclusive stories on major capital raises, fund launches, secondary transactions, institutional allocations and structural shifts in private markets.
• Cover the growing influence of pension funds, sovereign wealth funds, endowments, family offices and private wealth managers in alternatives.
• Provide insight into how private market trends intersect with public markets, including equities, credit and derivatives.
• Analyze big investing themes such as the democratization of private markets, retail access to alternatives, private credit expansion, secondaries growth and liquidity challenges.
• Build and maintain relationships with fund managers, allocators, investment bankers, placement agents and institutional investors.
• Work independently and collaboratively with show teams, producers and the digital newsroom to develop compelling on-air segments and written stories.
• Conduct interviews, write scripts, report live on television and produce digital-first features.
• Take ownership of segments from pitch to production, including booking guests, preparing research, coordinating video elements and ensuring editorial accuracy.
• Contribute to CNBC's digital and social platforms with timely analysis and explanatory reporting.
• Stay ahead of upcoming fundraising cycles, major investor conferences, regulatory developments and capital deployment trends.
Hybrid: This position has been designated as hybrid, generally contributing from the office a minimum of three days per week.
Qualifications
What you'll bring:
• Bachelor's Degree or equivalent work experience.
• At least 3 years reporting in a live television environment and or reporting for a digital business news outlet.
• Experience covering private equity, private credit, venture capital, real assets, hedge funds and other alternative investments.
Desired Characteristics
• Ability to multitask and prioritize assignments, while working with multiple producers and editors on the broadcast and digital teams.
• Deep understanding of how capital is flowing across public and private markets - and how institutional and private wealth investors are reshaping the investment landscape.
• Experience with live reporting.
• Must be willing to travel, often with short notice.
