Job Description
CNBC is seeking a field producer who will be highly versatile and ready to cover a broad range of stories out of our Washington Bureau, where we are focused on the intersection of business and politics. This field producer will brainstorm and pitch ideas, provide research and reporting while working closely with reporters to advance stories, produce breaking news, plan field coverage, and build segments both in the bureau and the field.
What you'll do:
• Work both independently and with DC-based reporters to produce breaking news and enterprise stories, primarily for broadcast and additionally for digital, audio and social.
• Production responsibilities may include research, conducting interviews, writing scripts, field producing, overseeing editing.
• Provide support for coverage across Washington, DC including but not limited to Capitol Hill, White House, Treasury Department, and the Federal Reserve. On-location production responsibilities can involve everything from covering a hearing, interviewing newsmakers at a stakeout, or producing a high-profile interview.
• Contribute to weekly story meetings and contribute original ideas relevant to the intersection of business and politics.
• Deploy a multiplatform strategy when producing a story to include broadcast, digital, and social -- working closely with the relevant digital editors to be sure a reporter's story and/or video is published online. Prior experiencing writing/reporting for digital is a plus, but not required.
• Communicate clearly with reporter and field production crews to determine best coverage plan and live remote locations for a particular story.
• Take ownership of segments from pitch to production, including but not limited to: booking feeds, collecting relevant video, and working with editors to cut elements for segment
• Communicate with CNBC News desk editors and executive producers on available live times, understanding and owning all live hit requests, disseminating hit times to reporter and team on the ground. In the bureau, work with reporters on day-of-air hits. Locate all video needed whether it be in-house archival or acquired through shoots, satellite feeds, company hand-outs.
• Distill news and information into easy to understand chyrons and graphics often in a fast-paced breaking news environment.
• Work with editors to create video elements for reporter live hits and produce packages, create chyron and graphic elements in show rundowns.
• Book taped and live interview segments, thoroughly researching the guest/topic and conducting pre-interviews.
What you'll bring:
• At least 3 years segment producing or field producing in live television environment with a demonstrated writing ability, research skills, communication skills and editorial judgment.
• A deep understanding and curiosity for the impact of politics on the world of business and the global economy.

• Ability to multitask and prioritize assignments, while working with multiple reporters and editors on the broadcast and digital teams.
• Experience with multiple forms of social media.
• Experience with basic field camera operation (DV, DSLR), Avid iNews and content management systems.
• Must be willing to travel, often with short notice.
• Bachelor's Degree
