Responsibilities
OVERVIEW
The Correspondent will write copy for CNBC.com and also work as a multimedia journalist who generates original, compelling stories for people who want a greater understanding of technology, both as investors and as users, at a time when tech is evolving on a global basis. The Correspondent will work as part of the CNBC.com EMEA editorial team, cultivating sources, communicating with industry players, pitching story ideas, hitting breaking news, and producing stories in a content management system. The Correspondent will possess enthusiasm for developing professional skills in other media including on-camera television work, digital video, event moderation and/or podcasts.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
• Producing digital stories including copy, graphics, video and hyperlinks in a way that draws search engines to the story page, holds readers on the page once they get there, and then compels them to share the page
• Writing fast and accurate breaking news copy, and multi-tasking in a fast-paced environment
• Readiness to and interest in expanding into other forms of journalism including TV, social video, live events and podcasts
• The ideal candidate will develop the ability to regularly provide on-air TV reporting of tech stories, both in-studio and as outside broadcasts
• Pitching, reporting and writing tech-focused digital news and analysis stories which can lead the homepage
• Researching financial markets data and analyzing tech developments for appropriate content on the website and/or on TV or social video as appropriate
• Collaborating with TV colleagues and international CNBC offices on stories related to technology
• Making use of social media and other tools to promote CNBC.com content
• Where appropriate and depending on the candidate's development plan, update CNBC.com pages in a timely and accurate manner, assign stories and edit copy
SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
• In-depth knowledge of technology, financial markets and business and economic news
• Demonstrated experience working for a news website or a wire service
• Prior on-camera TV news experience is a major plus
• Experience and ease with public speaking is a plus
• Demonstrated experience of writing tech-focused stories on a regular basis
• Initiative to follow up on story ideas and be a proactive reporter across multiple media formats on an as-needed basis
• Demonstrated self-starter, with the ability to make decisions quickly in a fast-paced environment
• Excellent verbal communication skills to foster good relations with colleagues as well as contacts and sources, including colleagues at great geographical distance
• Good eye for detail, ability to submit clean, accurate copy
• Keen eye for detail and an inquisitive mind
• Demonstrated ability to prioritize a wide range of tasks coupled with the ability to operate under tight deadlines efficiently & accurately
• Relevant university degree required

REQUIREMENTS
- A clear understanding of CNBC's editorial and programming priorities
- A flexible attitude to working different shifts occasionally when required, including weekends
- Experience of working in content management systems desirable
- Experience working on-camera both live and on tape desirable
- Experience of working for a leading wire service or business news website desirable
- Fluency in English
- Ability to speak at least one other European or Middle Eastern language would be an advantage
