JOB SUMMARY:
The 'Director of Arena Audio' is responsible for the setup, operation, and monitoring of audio systems during Rocket Arena live events, including all NBA and AHL games, as well as all smaller shows and ancillary meetings and banquets. This role ensures that all audio elements—including music, announcements, sound effects, and live performances—are delivered with clarity and at appropriate levels for both the audience and performers.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Maintains the audio system interface with third party events (concerts, outside groups, etc.).
• Operates, repairs, maintains, adjusts and interfaces audio system with other audio systems in the building.
• Perform daily AV tasks, setting up microphones and TVs for meeting spaces throughout the building. Including the use of portable PA systems and built-in audio/video systems.
• Perform sound checks prior to events to ensure all equipment is functioning and audio levels are balanced; Monitor and adjust audio levels in real time to maintain optimal sound quality throughout the event.
• Execute audio cues for music, sound effects, and announcements as directed by event scripts or production staff.
• Track, maintain and service, all audio equipment.
• Perform audio duties for NBA, AHL, and third-party events. Must have a good working knowledge of AV wiring paths and patch panels.
• Must have a complete understanding of the operation of all in-house automated AMX control and audio systems that are used in specific clubs, conference/meeting rooms and banquet areas.
• Collaborate with event producers, stage managers, and technical teams to coordinate timing and delivery of audio elements.
• Set up and test audio and intercom systems. Must be able to diagnose problems and facilitate a solution. Must be available to communicate with technical representatives and/or clients to solve any issues arising from their use at Rocket Arena.
• Perform research of equipment systems to determine the best solutions for system integration and facility use.
• Develop strategies and plans for special projects such as recommendations for upgrading system controls in conference and meeting rooms, or developing plans to expand the fiber optic cable infrastructure throughout the facility.
• Maintain records of maintenance and repair of equipment (AV, etc.).
• Power up and shut down audio systems before and after events, following proper procedures.
• Ability to deal with frequent changes, delays, or unexpected events.
• Ability to share expertise with other team members.
• Flexibility to work irregular hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, as dictated by event schedules.
• Display original thinking and creativity.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
• Preferred – post-secondary training such as a certificate or associate degree in sound engineering, audio production, or a related field.
• Preferred - degrees in acoustics, electrical engineering, or production & design, though a specialized degree in sound board operation.
• 7 years of professional experience in audio and entertainment in sports venue management.
• Must have flexible availability to work irregular hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, as dictated by event schedules.
• Proficiency in operating digital and analog audio mixing consoles.
• Strong understanding of live sound principles, including mixing, equalization, and feedback control.
• Ability to work calmly and efficiently under pressure, especially during live events.
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills for collaborating with production staff and performers.
• Attention to detail and the ability to follow scripts and cues precisely.
• Basic troubleshooting and repair skills for audio equipment.
• Experience with live event setups, load-ins, and load-outs is especially important.
• Ability to lift and move audio equipment as needed.
• Punctuality and reliability for all scheduled shifts, rehearsals, and events.
