Department: Baseball Operations – Player Development
Job Title: Outfield/Baserunning Coordinator
Reports To: Field Coordinator
FLSA: Salary, Exempt
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
• Individualized instruction for each Reds minor league outfielder (outfield defense) and position players (baserunning):
• Use subjective and objective methods to evaluate each outfielder and position player/baserunner to identify individual strengths and limitations.
• Communicate effectively (written and verbal) with each outfielder and position player/baserunner to identify what they believe to be their individual strengths and limitations.
• Communicate with affiliate coaching staffs (written and verbal) to get their day-to-day perspectives on outfielder's strengths, limitations, and development.
• Communicate (written and verbal) with Analytics/Sports Science, Mental Skills/Wellness, S&C, and Medical to identify opportunities and limitations for each outfielder and position player/baserunner.
• Collaborate with the Field Coordinator and outfielder/position player to develop individual goals for each player and to develop processes (in-season and off-season) to help each player achieve their individual goals.
• Use all resources to develop evolving organization-wide standards and practices for all outfielders for improvement of outfield mechanics and fundamentals, with an emphasis on developing competition and recreating game-quality repetitions as often as possible:
• Develop drill packages to help outfielders develop and reinforce good mechanical habits across all levels.
• Develop drill packages that help outfielders understand and internalize their individual responsibilities on all plays.
• Develop drill packages that help outfielders understand organizational approach to positioning.
• Collaborate with the Field Coordinator to develop a pre-game and infield routine.
• Collaborate with the Field Coordinator and ML coaching staff to develop organizational standards for outfield positioning to be communicated by affiliate staffs to minor league outfielders.
• Collaborate with Analytics/Sports Science, Mental Skills/Wellness, S&C, and ATCs to draw on other disciplines and ensure that Reds' standards are at the cutting edge of outfield instruction.
• Use all resources to develop evolving organization-wide standards and practices for all position players for improvement of baserunning mechanics and fundamentals, with an emphasis on developing competition and recreating game-quality repetitions as often as possible:
• Develop drill packages that help baserunners develop and reinforce proper techniques and mindset (smart, aggressive, and aware).
• Collaborate with the Field Coordinator to develop a pre-game and batting practice routine.
• Collaborate with Analytics/Sports Science, Mental Skills/Wellness, S&C, and ATCs to draw on other disciplines and ensure that Reds' standards are at the cutting edge of baserunning instruction.
• Visit all Reds minor league affiliates, with an emphasis on the following tasks and others as assigned by the Field Coordinator:
• Communicate and reinforce requirements and expectations for outfield play and baserunning to affiliate coaching staffs and outfielders/position players.
• Coach the coaches-work with the affiliate coach assigned to work with outfielders and position players/baserunners to ensure that players are progressing toward achievement of their individual goals.
• Quality control-ensure that drill packages, pre-game and infield routines, throwing programs, and positioning are being executed to expectations.
• Adhere to organizational budget and policies relating to travel and expense reimbursement.
• Continued personal growth:
• Stay current with developments in outfield and baserunning instruction in the public domain by reading, visiting private facilities, and attending conferences.
Expectations:

• Act as a role model within and outside the Cincinnati Reds Organization.
• Performs duties as workload necessitates.
