This is a Part Time Unpaid Internship
Department: Baseball Operations
Job Title: Sports Science Intern
Reports To: Director of Sports Science Initiatives
Job Purpose: Assist the Sports Science staff with research and development efforts within new and existing projects. This role will primarily be focused on the application of sports science in the fields of medical care, strength and conditioning, as well as player development. Additional collaboration with the baseball analytics department may also be available. Immediate/early 2020 availability is preferred. However, those applicants that are not available until next spring/summer will also be considered.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
• Collaborate with the sports science, athletic training, physical therapy, strength and conditioning and player development staffs to design and implement projects.
• Assist the above-mentioned staffs with data collection, maintenance, preparation and analysis.
• Keep up to date on current baseball and sports science research.
• Assist in designing, developing, testing and implementing projects in sports science within the baseball environment.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
• Strong foundation in a sports science field, such as biomechanics, motor control or exercise physiology.
• Knowledge of data collection techniques, statistical analysis and ethical research standards.
• Demonstrated experience with multiple sports science related software packages.
• Knowledge of a variety of computer software applications in word processing, spreadsheets, database and presentation software (Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint).
• Understanding of current baseball research, statistics and strategy as well as typical baseball training, workloads and gameplay.
• Ability to communicate effectively with all aspects of baseball operations, scouting and player development staffs.
Work Environment:
• Work is normally performed in the following: interior/office work environment, athletic fields, workout facility and/or in a medical care facility.
• Hours may include nights, weekends and holidays.
Expectations:
• Adhere to Cincinnati Reds Organization Policies and Procedures.
• Act as a role model within and outside the Cincinnati Reds Organization.
• Performs duties as workload necessitates.
• Demonstrate flexible and efficient time management and ability to prioritize workload.
• Meet Department productivity standards.
