Job Title: Director of Public Safety & Security
Reports To: Vice President of Ballpark Operations
FLSA: Exempt
Job Purpose: The public safety and security functions for Great American Ballpark and the Cincinnati Reds are comprised of a full-time 24/7 team that is responsible for the safety and security of the ballpark and other key locations on a daily basis. The security responsibility is game and event focused and comprises a large contingent of seasonal part-time staff and off-duty law enforcement. This group also includes K9 operations (both in-house and contracted) along with fire prevention.
The selected candidate will be responsible for the strategic direction and performance of the entire operation, in compliance with internal expectations, Major League Baseball's Best Stadium Operations Procedures and other industry and regulatory directives. This is a director level position, sitting on the Vice President's senior leadership team, as well as the organization's Risk & Business Continuity Committee. Additionally, developing and maintaining a positive working relationship with Major League Baseball's Security Department, local & federal public safety agencies, which include chairing a routine meeting with those partners.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
• Operate the department in compliance with Reds, MLB (BSOP) and governmental regulations and statues.
• Develop appropriate systems to direct, coordinate, and supervise all functions and activities at Reds facilities including planning, assigning, monitoring, and supervising and overall responsibility for the work of departmental personnel.
• Responsible for developing work plans and measuring overall departmental performance and goal attainment
• Prepare, manage and evaluate resources and budgets for the department.
• Establish operations, tracking systems, assign work, and evaluate appropriately
• Ensure all preventative maintenance tasks are completed in a timely manner including task scheduling, tracking and recording/filing proper documentation. These include, but are not limited to, officer gear, video equipment, fire detection system, metal detection equipment, x-ray machines and other infrastructure.
• Develop and coordinate all training for the department.
• Build effective and productive relationships with staff, visitors, and outside partners.
• Regularly inspect public and restricted areas to ensure that the areas are in acceptable condition.
• Assure compliance with all applicable code, safety, and environmental health requirements
• Schedule and chair regular meetings between the Reds and public safety officials regarding the safety & security of the ballpark and organization.
• Lead the department in professional manner by the development of programs and opportunities to increase skills, knowledge base, awareness, and competencies.
• Act as a liaison with Federal, State, County, and local law enforcement and fire officials.
• Assist the Vice President with the development and continuation of the business continuity plan and Safety Act certification.
• Conduct internal investigations in cooperation with the Vice President and Human Resources related to department staff as a result of complaints or observed misbehavior.
• Responsible for the coordination of dignitary protection for attendees at Reds home games and other large events at GABP.
• Oversee and coordinate the operation of the Reds seasonal event staff and seasonal game day security.
Experience, Education and Licensure:
• Bachelors degree in Criminal Justice or ten (10) years of experience in law enforcement or corporate security with seven (7) of those years in a supervisory role.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
• Demonstrated ability to manage a large department and promote professionalism among the operation.
• Ability to work within established budgets and generating financial reports.
• Successful experience with leading and supervising staff, including but not limited to, promoting a healthy and efficient environment, scheduling to meet staff and departmental needs, establishing and evaluating goals, and ensuring that staff have the equipment to perform their responsibilities.
• Experience with developing and managing staff training.
• Excellent time and project management and interpersonal/communication skills.
Special Requirement:
Must be physically capable of moving about the Great American Ballpark facility, construction work sites and under adverse field conditions.

• Successfully achieve professional and departmental goals as agreed to with the Vice President of Ballpark Operations.
• Operate the department to ensure that all initiatives and expectations are achieved.
• Demonstrate flexible and efficient time management and ability to prioritize workload.
• Willingness to work weekends, nights, holidays, and a flexible schedule to ensure that 85% of home games are worked and 100% of all post-season games and large events (i.e. concerts).
• Develop and maintain positive working relationships with public safety partners and other public assembly facility security operations.
